A Secret Stop Sale Could Explain the Honda Ridgeline’s Sales Decline
It’s time to put your detective hat on. Today I’m going over a mystery surrounding the Honda Ridgeline and its sudden decline in sales. Some clues suggest that the Ridgeline may have had a secret stop sale.
Does the 2024 Honda Ridgeline have a stop-sale?
First of all, shout out to Pickup Truck +SUV Talk for bringing this matter to light. Based on recent sales reports, you can see that the Honda Ridgeline experienced a massive sales decline which doesn’t make sense.
In the first half of 2023, the Ridgeline sold 27,430 trucks, which is pretty good for the mid-size truck segment. But in the first half of 2024, it only sold 19,922 trucks, which represents a -28.3% decline.
One could theorize that the Ridgeline could be struggling due to inflation, production delays, or supply chain shortages. However, many supply chains are finally back on track after COVID-19 disrupted things.
Also, the plot thickens. In May, Honda released a recall for 187,290 Ridgeline models from 2020 – 2024, but only about 3% of trucks were expected to be at risk.
The recall involves faulty electric wiring for the rear-view camera that sits in the tailgate. Fatigue caused by the presence of freezing salt and water could degrade the wires.
To correct the issue, Honda will replace the rear-view tailgate wiring harness with an improved setup. Honda will also reimburse owners that have already had this correction performed. Notification letters about the recall are going to owners at risk during July.
According to a forum, there is a stop sale related to the problem. Plus the faulty wiring could fail to lock or unlock the tailgate and cause the security alarm to malfunction.
A stop sale would prevent Honda Ridgeline models from going out and needing to be repaired later. Think of it as a quality check, designed to catch problems before trucks are delivered and need an expensive recall.
Also, why keep the stop sale quiet? To avoid bad press. Stop sales can often make trucks a laughing matter.
Forums aren’t a good source for official information though, but the team at Pickup Truck +SUV Talk has reached out to Honda for more information. Stay tuned for updates.
