With social distance rules widely in place, it can be tough to hold car meets. Having to organize cars and make sure that everyone follows the safety guidelines can be a pain. But Subaru of America found a way to make it work and it even broke a Guinness World Record in the process.

What was the Guinness World Record for?

Believe it or not, the automaker broke the Guinness World Record for having the largest parade of Subaru cars. The parade was organized in conjunction with the 2020 Subaru Technica International (STI) Subiefest and was held at the OC Fair and Expo Center in Costa Mesa, CA last weekend. In total, 1,751 Subaru vehicles showed up the actual parade spanned over two miles long.

If you have never heard of STI Subiefest, it’s one the largest gatherings for Subaru owners that’s held every year. And this year, with taking all of the social distancing and health guidelines into consideration, STI Subiefest tried things a different way by organizing the parade to ensure the attendee’s safety. Amazingly, the queue of cars ended up breaking the record for a Subaru gathering, which trumped the last record set in 2015 where 549 Subaru vehicles gathered together.

Setting the record wasn’t the best part of the meet

While getting everyone together and setting a new record is an amazing feat in itself, the best part about the whole event is that Subaru of America didn’t sell tickets for it. Instead, SOA asked for a donation from each registered attendee that participated, which ended up going to Feeding America, which is a network of food banks across the country. The donations that they received will provide about 241,800 meals for those in need. Subaru of America also pointed out that it will match the total donations it received from the participants in order to bring the total donated amount to 500,000.

According to Alan Bethke, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Subaru of America, “In these trying times we all search for stability in our daily lives. We hope that through this donation to Feeding America, we can provide the comfort and stability of a meal for people who struggle with hunger in America. We must all stay safe but remember to help others where we can.”

Subaru is no stranger to helping those in need

Subaru has also partnered up with Feeding America to provide over 50 million meals to those in need, especially those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This partnership was further enriched by the wealth of donations received at the 2020 Subiefest and Guinness World Record attempt.

According to Autoblog, another great part of that car gathering, aside from breaking a world record and providing a large number of meals, was the unveiling of the forthcoming 2022 Subaru BR-Z. The brand’s next-generation sports cars are set to make its debut before the end of this year and should be arriving in dealerships in 2021 as a 2022 model.
