The 2022 Subaru BRZ is an impressive little sports car. While it often gets lumped in with its fraternal twin, the Toyota GR86, Edmunds thinks the BRZ really stands out for 2022. The agile sports car makes everyday tasks fun with a reasonable price and two transmission choices.

When it comes down to it, cars and sports cars alike are getting faster and faster. When Edmunds went through the candidates for the top-rated sports cars for the new year, the 2022 Subaru BRZ checked all of the boxes.
Edmunds says the Subaru BRZ is amazingly capable and fun “at legal speeds.” While the 2021 Subaru BRZ was still a solid sedan, the 2022 version adjusted some things that were previously overlooked. Things like the uneven engine performance that plagued that previous model has been ironed out.
On top of being fun to drive, the 2022 Subaru BRZ is affordable and fuel-efficient. This makes it a more accessible option for people who might not be in the luxury sports car price range.
What improvements were made on the 2022 Subaru BRZ?
Edmunds points out that while being a racecar on the track is essential for some sports cars, that kind of energy isn’t always necessary. The Subaru BRZ can probably get you around the track in a pinch, but it will really shine during daily activities too.
The updated sports car feels capable in any setting with new telepathic steering and a well-balanced chassis. The 2021 Subaru BRZ didn’t have this characteristic. Edmunds says that “the BRZ was a bit loose and too eager to slide, which made it almost a chore to drive quickly.” But not anymore.
“For 2022, Subaru has given the BRZ loads more grip, giving you confidence and enabling you to drive the BRZ pretty much any way you want to.”

What other sports cars impressed the experts?
When it comes down to it, the 2022 Toyota GR86 came in second. While the BRZ received an Edmunds rating of 8.3 out of 10, the GR86 scored 8.2 out of 10. In third is the 2020 Nissan 370Z, which has a tagline of “redesigned in 2009.” It only received a score of 5.6 out of 10, but that still put it in third. For the price, it seems hard to beat the Subaru BRZ.
Consumer Reports hasn’t tested the 2022 BRZ yet but has high hopes for it. For the predicted reliability score, CR gave it a three out of five. The predicted owner satisfaction came in at a four out of five. With high marks from one major company, it won’t be a surprise to see a good score from CR soon enough.
