1 Subaru SUV Has a Horrifying Reliability Rating
Reliability is more important than ever as inflation rises and people stick with the same car for longer periods of time. For the most part, each Subaru model has a solid reputation for durability. However, one Subaru SUV fails to promote confidence.
What is the least reliable Subaru SUV?
The least reliable Subaru SUV is the 2024 Subaru Solterra EV. This isn’t too much of a surprise because it’s Subaru’s first attempt at providing an electric SUV.
Some say to never buy a brand-new car during its first model year, and it recently debuted in 2023 as a 2024 model. According to J.D.Power, the Solterra has a reliability score of 67 out of 100, which is lower than expected.
Anything between 60 and 70 is below average, while scores between 71 and 80 are average. Scores ranging between 81 to 90 are above average and anything between 91 and 100 is best.
J.D.Power assigns a 100-point score to each car based on driver feedback. Surveys are sent out allowing people to report any problems they face from the paint, engine, electronics, tires, transmission, and more.
When I spent a week with the Solterra, I appreciated its unique style, comfort, and performance. But I also had trouble with the headlights, range, wireless charging pad, and X-Mode.
Other Subaru SUV models have higher scores:
- 2024 Subaru Crosstrek – 83
- 2024 Subaru Forester – 84
- 2024 Subaru Outback – 80
- 2024 Subaru Ascent – 82
The Subaru Solterra was developed with Toyota and is almost the exact same as the Toyota bZ4X, which managed to earn an even lower score of 64.
The bZ4X may have had more complaints because it sold roughly 2,000 more models than the Solterra in 2023, allowing more people to report their problems.
I hope that Toyota and Subaru have learned a few lessons from the launch of these EVs because they just decided to create three more electric vehicles together.
