Subaru Will Give You a Merit Badge for Being a Loyal Owner
If you have ever been in the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, then you’re probably familiar with what merit badges are. For those not in the know, a merit badge is a badge (or patch) that you earn after meeting the prescribed requirements in learning about a specific trade, career, or craft. Subaru has something similar for the loyal owners who buy and make use of their lovable products, it’s called a “Badge of Ownership.”
I just had to have one
Being the loyal and enthusiastic owner of an almost-new 2019 Subaru Forester Sport, I knew I just had to get one of these badges. After all, how can I live in a state like Colorado, where Subaru sells about three times as many cars as they do anywhere else, and not have a badge to display my loving loyalty?
Luckily, obtaining a Badge of Ownership is easy, and best of all, they will ship it to me free of charge. So I went on to Badgeofownership.com and built my badge.
Ordering the badge
When I first logged onto the site, I noticed a very sincere message from Subaru that read, “Our special gift to you and our way of saying, ‘Thanks for choosing Subaru!’”
That’s nice and very heart-warming. However, I would have rather received free all-weather mats, but I guess this will do.
For those looking to get their own, you’ll be happy to know that building the badge is easy. The first step is selecting the corresponding “Loyalty Number” that represents the number of Subaru vehicles that you have owned.
Since the Forester is my first Subaru, I naturally picked “1st.”
Lifestyle icons
Then it was on to picking the “lifestyle icons” that represent my interests and hobbies and allow me to express them to the outside world, as well as anyone that happens to tailgate me.
There are 53 icons in total to choose from and they range in activities from camping to yoga. But they even have badges for “family” and “pride.”
To my dismay, I couldn’t find any badges for “sitting,” “standing,” or “sleeping,” as those are hobbies that not only represent me, but I have also been training for them all my life.
After some careful consideration, my badge of ownership contained the following:
- Martial Arts: Not only do I train in Jiu-Jitsu, but I also like to watch Van Damme movies.
- Stargazing: Because I like to stare at the sky at nighttime.
- Rally: Since I used to be really good at the rally stages in Gran Turismo
- Road trips: Who doesn’t like road trips?
- Performance: I figured it would give my Forester five extra horsepower, at least.
After building the badge, it was just a matter of filling out my personal information for them to ship it to me.
Just to note, they do ask for the VIN of your car to make sure that you actually own a Subaru.
I can’t wait
Now that I have ordered my badge, I feel like I am one step closer to being a full-fledged Subaru owner and a real Coloradan. Considering I have been a lifelong Honda owner, this is a big step for me, but I can’t wait until it comes in the mail.
Next, I’ll have to look into getting a “13.1” sticker for my beloved Forester. Not because I can run a half-marathon, but because that’s how many miles it is to drive round-trip to my favorite pizza spot.
