In addition to arguably being the best brand for off-roading, Jeep vehicles get access to unique accessories and Mopar. There are kits to modify the engine and enhance the chassis. There’s even an electric Jeep Wrangler in the works that can drop you off at a trail and meet you after you’re done.

According to Stellantis, the newest Mopar offering is the new Sunrider flip-top roof. Jeep customers enjoy removable soft and hard tops for summer driving, plus they make for more thrilling off-pavement trips. Which Jeeps have customizable roofs, and what does the new Sunrider flip-top bring to the game?

Jeep’s extensive roof options

Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators have a standard and premium soft top available. Although they look identical, the premium version is made with a more durable canvas material instead of vinyl. Both can be easily rolled down without the need for tools, but doing so eats up valuable cargo space.

Drivers who want another layer of protection against the elements can opt for the removable hardtop. This one can also be optioned with a Mopar headliner for better insulation, plus it can be outfitted with roof racks. The downside is that it’s bulkier and isn’t as easy to store or remove.

While it’s expensive, the one-touch Sky Top roof is also a great option. Much like a sunroof, the whole roof can be rolled back with the press of a button. Panoramic sunroofs are also optional on several other Jeep SUVs, including both Cherokee models.

The new Sunrider flip top

Stellantis says the new Sunrider flip top is made from black-twill fabric, reportedly offering better protection against the elements. Unlike the regular soft-top, this one only unrolls for the front row passengers. The mechanism can be easily flipped forward and back at a moment’s notice.

The Sunrider flip top can be installed at the dealership, but the automaker says the installation process is easy for DIYers. The new top is available for 2018-2021 Wranglers and all models of the Jeep Gladiator. For both vehicles, it has a suggested price of $895.

Other fun mopar parts for your Jeep

In addition to removable doors, both the Wrangler and Gladiator can be optioned with half-doors. These offer just as much of a free-riding experience while providing more protection for the vehicle’s occupants. If you want something cheaper, JPP also provides mesh door covers at $250 for four doors.

Obviously, ripping it up along trails can sometimes cause some excessive vibration. A set of tube doors reduces those jiggles and while giving you that fun amusement park ride aesthetic. You can also add on a set of mirrors to these tubes for better visibility.

Removable doors and roofs are nice, but they might get annoying to take off and on every day. Fortunately, you can get a Jeep cab cover in either water-resistant or heat-reflective nylon. Jeep also offers two mesh sunbonnets for models with removable roofs to help filter out harmful UV rays. Additionally, the Jeep Gladiator offers a soft tonneau cover to keep your cargo safe and dry.

We can’t forget all the various off-roading enhancements you can get for the Wrangler, many of which are standard for Rubicons. Those include performance shocks, rock rails, a sway bar, performance bumpers, off-roading wheels and tires, skid plates, and tow hooks. The engine can be purchased with a performance intake, exhaust, and a snorkel for easier water-fording.

The only other vehicle that offers a similar experience is the Ford Bronco, but those are in minimal supply. The new Sunrider soft top is all the more reason to find a Jeep and experience the ride for yourself.
