The Italian automaker Lamborghini has a reputation for producing some of the most attractive and high-performance supercars available. However, in addition to being very expensive, Lambos don’t have high-volume production runs. Even the most popular model, the Lamborghini Urus, only has about 4,000 units (give or take) produced per year.

As such, drivers that see a (possibly) more affordable offering from Lamborghini might be tempted to get their hands on it. While it’s not an official Lambo, one small automaker has cooked up a superbike with a Lamborghini engine. It’s called the Engler Desat. Can (and should) you buy it?

The Engler Desat mixes motorcycle and sports car elements

While the Engler Desat would qualify as a “super-quad” instead of a car, Carbuzz notes that it borrows its styling from other sporty luxury vehicles. It uses the same taillights and headlights as the Audi R8 and shares an identical wheelbase. 

If you ignore the handlebars, the Desat looks like any other stylish hypercar you’d see from Audi or Lamborghini from the front end. In fact, we’d argue that the geometric shapes along its body make it look even more striking. Considering the Desat’s specs, the only thing we’re concerned about is the lack of a seatbelt.

How much power does the Engler Desat have?

The Engler Desat will reportedly have the same 5.2-liter V8 engine that the Lamborghini Huracan uses. Inside this car, it can produce up to 631 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. In another possible nod to the Huracan and Audi R8, that engine comes paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

In the Desat, Engler F.F claims this engine will generate 1,000 hp and promise a top speed of 217 mph. Just like the Lamborghini Huracan, it should only need 2.5 seconds to hit 62 mph. 

The automaker also promises that this ‘hyperquad’ will have a perfect 1:1 power ratio, making for some exciting handling. The Engler Desat weighs just 2,425 lbs and has an overall length of 184 inches.

Of course, as Carbuzz points out, those power specs seem somewhat unbelievable. Its top speed also exceeds what’s typically considered safe, around 186 mph. Additionally, the Engler Desat is missing several other safety mechanisms that should be required on such a powerful vehicle.

Other upcoming Lamborghini vehicles

While we wait for the Engler Desat to undergo some likely safety modifications, Car and Driver hypes up some electric and PHEV Lambos. Next year, we should receive a replacement for the Aventador to kick off the automaker’s plans toward complete electrification. 

We know it will be a plug-in hybrid, but we’re unsure if it will retain its output of 769 hp. Fortunately, a V12 engine has been confirmed for the model.

The Lamborghini Huracan will also receive the plug-in treatment, plus a new engine that will be exclusive to the brand. A Urus PHEV should be released around the same time, equipped with a V8 engine that promises 850 hp. Currently, the Lamborghini Urus is powered by a twin-turbo unit that generates up to 657 hp.

We know that the last planned Lamborghini is a grand touring EV, but details about its design and powertrain haven’t been released. It’s also rumored that the automaker will reveal new release details about some new Huracan variants soon, including the all-terrain Sterrato. 

The Engler Desat still doesn’t have a release date or production timeline. Engler F.F hasn’t said how much the Desat will cost, and we’re not sure if it will be available outside the United Kingdom. Given its heart of a Lambo, we expect the Engler’s price to be in the six figures (if not more).
