Roush Performance has modified several Fords over the years. The tuner has boosted Mustangs, and its parts have shown up in SEMA Rangers. Recently, Roush unveiled several Ford F-150 packages. They range from minor off-road features to Raptor mods, to the F-150 Nitemare, a 650-hp truck-shaped missile. Now, the tuner is collaborating with 5.11 Tactical on a new limited-edition F-150. Usually, apparel-themed trucks aren’t that special, and ‘military-themed’ trucks can be a little…much. But the Roush Ford F-150 Tactical Edition can back up the limited-edition title.

The Roush Ford F-150 Tactical Edition performance and off-road upgrades

Under the hood is Ford’s 5.0-liter V8, sporting Roush’s TVS R2650 supercharger. Which means, instead of 395 hp and 400 lb-ft, it’s now putting out 650 hp and 610 lb-ft. The engine upgrades are paired with Roush’s dual-tip active exhaust, which offers four modes: Touring, Off-road, Sport, and Custom. However, you’ll need Roush’s iOS app to tweak Custom mode.

Roush then installs 20” custom wheels, fitted with 33” General Grabber all-terrain tires. Naturally, the F-150 gets fender flares to clear the wheels; however, these flares also feature integrated accent lighting. Roush also replaces the F-150’s stock suspension with Fox Performance 2.0 shocks.

The grille is replaced with a Roush one, as is the front bumper. In addition to the grille’s integrated lighting, Roush also installs puddle lights that beam the company’s logo on the ground when the doors are locked or unlocked. And while not available as of this writing, Roush will also offer the F-150 Tactical Edition with an optional bed-mounted chase rack, complete with dual 10” Rigid SR Pro light bars.

Interior features

Roush did also upgrade the F-150’s interior.

Motor1 reports the Roush F-150 Tactical Edition gets a custom gauge cluster, as well as custom quilted-leather Roush seats. These seats come with a US flag embroidered on the headrests, and the Roush branding matches the badge on the side of the hood. Like its other F-150s, Roush also installs a locking center-console vault. Each F-150 Tactical Edition will also feature serialized interior badges.

But, while Roush may have supplied most of this F-150’s mods, 5.11 Tactical has also provided some gear. Buyers will receive a 5.11 Tactical hard case, containing an LE EMT multi-tool, multi-tool money clip, custom tactical pen, and a 5.11 Tactical duffel bag. The outside of the truck will also feature 5.11 Tactical and digital-camo graphics.

Roush Ford F-150 Tactical Edition pricing and availability

According to The Drive, the Tactical Edition is only available for new Ford F-150 Lariats. There are only two exterior colors available: Agate Black or Abyss Gray.

The Roush package adds $31,000 to the truck’s starting price of $42,500. Roush reports it will only make 150 of these trucks for 2020, however, each will come with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.

Is it worth it?

In terms of cost, a normal Ford F-150 Raptor is about $25,000 cheaper. The newest model also comes with Fox’s latest electronically-controlled shocks. However, it also makes 200 hp and 90 lb-ft less.

The Tactical Edition is also more expensive than the F-150 Nitemare, which offers the same amount of power. However, the Nitemare isn’t modified to go off-roading, whereas the Tactical Edition is. And, just like the Nitemare, there are very few trucks that could keep up with the Roush F-150 Tactical Edition, especially off-road.

Which makes the Roush Tactical Edition a limited-edition truck worth considering.
