It’s barely even been a few days since Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks were recalled for having a multimedia display issue. Now, these big trucks have a windshield wiper issue and are already being recalled again! 

Ram 1500 Recall For Loose Windshield Wipers 

Nearly half a million Ram 1500 and Classic 1500 pickup trucks built before March 3rd are being recalled by Ram for having loose windshield wiper arms. 

On these trucks, the bolts that connect the wipers to the windshield may come loose, causing the windshield wipers not to function correctly. In some cases, the wipers may not activate at all. 

This is a potential hazard because you will not be able to maintain visibility in the rain or snow. As your vision is obscured, the risk of an accident is significantly increased. 

What Should Ram 1500 Owners Do? 

Fiat, the parent company of Jeep and Ram, will begin notifying drivers affected by this issue in April. 

If you don’t want to wait that long to see if your truck has been recalled or not, you can call the automaker at 800-583-1403. 

You can also call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) vehicle hotline at 888-327-4236. 

But let’s be real, who wants to call someone? You can visit the NHTSA’s website here to look up your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). 

The Ram 1500 Fix 

Your Ram 1500 truck will have to go back to the dealership to have the bolts tightened or replaced. Luckily, it should be a quick fix with a simple service appointment. 

You do not have to go to the same dealership that you purchased your truck from. You can go to a local dealership, which should be easy to find online. 

Is The Ram 1500 Reliable? 

We understand that two recalls this close together may make you feel nervous about Ram trucks. However, these recalls are nothing compared to the right or so that the 2020 Ford F-150 trucks have already had. 

J.D. Power hasn’t given the Ram 1500 or Classic 1500 an official reliability rating yet. But the NHTSA and Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed some crash tests. 

The Ram 1500 Crew Cab has a five-star safety rating, and the Quad cab has a four-star safety rating from NHTSA. The Crew Cab Pickup also received a top safety pick award from the IIHS. 

When crashes were performed using realistic dummies, the Ram 1500 scored exceptionally high for automatic front collision prevention. 

The Ram 1500 also scored well in its ability to protect drivers and passengers in the front passenger seat. 

Dummies used in the crash seemed to have their chest and heads well protected. However, they did have a little lower leg and ankle damage. 

Overall, the 2020 Ram 1500 seems very strong. This may be because it had its cab mounts to the vehicle frame at the C-pillars strengthened to improve driver and front passenger safety. 

So far, the 2020 Ram 1500 has been safer and much less of a headache than the Ford F-150. At least the two previous recalls involve quick and easy fixes!
