Owners of the 2015 Highlander reported over 600 issues. The most common problems involve electrical problems and trouble with the interior accessories. Some drivers complained about uncomfortable seats. 

However, that’s a relief because it isn’t related to some massive mechanical problem. You can probably make the seats more comfortable with padded covers. Also, the complaints about aching legs and sore rear ends are pretty entertaining. 

The electrical problems involve reports of the power locks failing, the infotainment screen freezing, the radio randomly rebooting, the steering locking up or losing power, and the heated seats going rogue with super hot temperatures.

The 2019 Toyota Highlander has close to 500 complaints. The biggest problem is related to the fuel system. Owners reported that their Highlander models randomly stalled in traffic and had faulty gas gauges. But the issues were corrected under a recall.

So, go with the 2022 model if you want more torque and the 2023 model if you want more horsepower. Both models can tow up to 5,000 lbs when properly equipped. Both engines have the same fuel efficiency.
