The SUV With the Most Value Isn’t the Toyota RAV4
Wow, we have a potential upset on our hands with Toyota fans. Sorry, but the Toyota RAV4 isn’t providing the best value per mile, which is shocking. Toyota has a good reputation for reliability. But the RAV4 is currently taking a back seat against the Honda CR-V.
The Honda CR-V has the most value per mile
Surprise, the Honda CR-V has more value per mile than the Toyota RAV4. This is a massive shock because the Toyota RAV4 is the more popular option with a reputation for longevity, low ownership costs, and value.
iSeeCars decided to perform a massive study to determine which vehicles are the longest-lasting and which options provide the most value.
This study involves taking a look at the selling price for over 8.3 million vehicles sold between September and December 2023. This data was theme cross-referenced with another study including 181 million vehicles to find the longest-lasting option.
When it comes to combining value and lifespan, the Hona CR-V rules the small SUV class. It has an average sale price of $35,490, an average cost of $1,617 per 10,000 miles, and an average lifespan of 219,509 miles.
The Toyota RAV4 is down in fourth place. It has an average new vehicle price of $35,395, an average cost of $1,983 per 100,00 miles, and an average lifespan of 178,320.
So, the CR-V may start off as a little more expensive, but it has a lower operation cost. Also, on average it lasts for 41,189 more miles.
The average small SUV has a new vehicle price of $36,350, an average cost of $2,100 per 10,000 miles, and lasts for 173,927 miles. So both the RAV4 and CR-V have cheaper costs and last longer.
When it comes to current reliability ratings, the 2023 Honda CR-V still comes out ahead. J.D.Power gave it a reliability rating of 80 out of 100. The 2023 Toyota RAV4 earned a 76 out of 100.
Both scores are average, but the CR-V is one point away from getting into the above-average category. Scores between 70 to 80 are average and anything between 81 and 90 is above average.
