It’s true that Suzuki is one of the longest-running Japanese motor companies for all things motors. In fact, it’s celebrating 100 years of being in business this very year.

In all those decades, Suzuki has developed quite a sizable amount of products and dipped its toe in the automotive, motorcycle, and marine industries. The Global Suzuki website explains how far its motors have come and you can see just how it got where it is today.

Suzuki is more than just motorcycles

While the brand mainly known for powering some automobiles, the name is more familiar with motorcycles. Suzuki began making their clip-on motor creations in 1951 after the war. It produced them to power a regular bicycle. Eventually, they transitioned into motorcycles.

The company’s outboard motors might not be as popular as some brands, but they’re quickly catching up with competitors in the marine industry. They’ve actually been doing it since 1965 when they created the first D55 model, which was a two-stroke one-cylinder boat motor.

What do Suzuki outboard motors offer boaters today?

Originally, Suzuki developed mainly two-stroke outboard engines. It wasn’t until 1994 when it began building four-stroke motors with two cylinders. As time went on those four-stroke engines started running with four and now six-cylinders for the bigger-sized boats.

Each motor the company released to the market, during the last 60 years, showcased its innovative engineering. In 1977, it produced its first 5 hp motor as well as introduced water-cooled technology.

In 1997, Suzuki revolutionized the industry with their first electronic fuel injection system built into the DF60 and DF70 models.

Today, Suzuki has a lineup of outboard motors for all types of recreational boats whether big or small. While they always had some fans of their products, more people are getting on board and switching to Suzuki since some of the more popular brands aren’t as reliable, and unlike Suzuki, they tend to break down often.

The brand’s dependability didn’t go unnoticed, either. Over the decades, Suzuki was awarded the Most Innovative Products from the National Marine Manufacturers Association. They won this award several times in the years between 1987 and 2017.

Suzuki’s unbeatable value, reliability, and warranty

Yamaha is one of the most popular outboard motor manufactures out there. It’s one that people will buy over and over because they know these motors and stick with what they’re used to.

Suzuki isn’t as well-known, but those who’ve used these engines swear by them. With proper maintenance, these motors will last thousands of hours.

It’s rare that they ever need repair, but when they do, they’re pretty easy to work on, which is an important factor when buying a motor. Another benefit of owning a Suzuki is the value it offers. These engines are more affordable than most outboard motors on the market.

Not only are they inexpensive, Suzuki has one of the best warranties any marine motor company offers, according to Southern Boating. They currently have a three-year limited warranty on all their new recreational outboards. Plus, you can get a three-year extension, for no additional fees, covering 25-300 hp engines for a total of six years coverage.

Suzuki has been at the outboard motor business longer than most people realize. They know what consumers need in an outboard motor, and they know how to deliver it.
