If you want a fast Ford, you’ve got a few options. First, you could buy a Shelby, Roush, or Saleen-enhanced Ford, like the Mustang Shelby GT350. Next, you could build one yourself. Finally, you could buy a car from Ford’s own Special Vehicles Team (SVT); here are some of the best SVT models ever, like the SVT Raptor and SVT Cobra R.

  • Mustang Terminator
  • Ford F-150 SVT Lightning
  • Mustang Cobra R
  • Ford F-150 SVT Raptor
  • Ford GT

Is the Mustang SVT Cobra Terminator one of the best SVT models of all time?

The short-lived 2003 and 2004 Cobra Terminator is a difficult Mustang to ignore. Aside from the aggressive stance, ominous cobra badging, and shrill, manic supercharger whine, the Terminator asserted the Mustang’s dominance in the early 2000s. The Terminator’s 390 horsepower is courtesy of a 4.6L DOHC V8 with an Eaton M112 supercharger and forged rods from Manley. If the horsepower or aesthetics of the Terminator aren’t enough to sway you, its potential at the drag strip should grab your attention.

How much power does an SVT Lighting have?

Love it or hate it, the Ford F-150 SVT Lighting is a wild project and an altogether cool muscle truck. The Lightning produced 360 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque from its 5.4L supercharged V8. Better yet, MotorTrend says that power figures bumped up to 380 horsepower in 2001. The result was a low-slung, step-side truck with as much character as it had considerable power.

How much is a Mustang Cobra R?

The 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R was a limited-release, track-ready Mustang on the SN95 platform. Classic.com reports that Ford only produced 300 of them, which explains recent sales of over $100,000. Furthermore, Ford offered it in red only, with no creature comforts like air conditioning or a radio. Still, it produced 385 horsepower and rode on Bilstein suspension components, Brembo brakes, and a helpful limited-slip rear differential.

How much is a Ford SVT Raptor?

The Baja-inspired Ford Raptor was met with instant popularity, and it’s not difficult to see why. However, only the later-first generation of Raptors packed a 411-horsepower naturally aspirated 6.2L V8. Also, Kelley Blue Book (KBB) says that the 2014 Raptor has a typical listing price of $46,332. Of course, you’ll need to save some money for the pumps.

Is the Ford GT a V8?

The breathtakingly gorgeous Ford GT packs a 500-horsepower supercharged 5.4L V8 engine. The V8 is an all-aluminum affair with a six-speed manual transmission and a 6,500 rpm redline. It was an emotional nod to the storied GT40 race car of the 1960s, and regardless of what metric you observe, it lives up. It truly is one of the best SVT models ever.

What happened to SVT?

In 2017, after over 25 years of operation, Ford merged the Special Vehicle Team into the Ford Performance division of today. However, Ford chose to make that move after giving us some of the most fantastic SVT Cobra Mustangs, trucks, and performance cars the marque ever made. Better yet, the team created vehicles that spanned the gamut, creating a healthy used car market. If you’re tempted, find your fast Ford while you still can!
