A Sweepstakes Winner Received the First 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition
You may have seen the Omaze ads on various websites saying that they’re giving away a free car to a lucky winner. But did you ever think that anyone actually won those sweepstakes giveaways? Apparently, they do. In fact, a lucky winner named Zander L. recently won an Omaze sweepstakes contest and took delivery of the first 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition.
Over 41,000 Civic Type R fans entered the contest
Winning the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition is one thing, but beating out over 41,000 other entries is another. Those entries helped raise over $500,000 in support of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. The money raised will go towards grants from CAF America, which will benefit programs that support Historically Black Colleges and Universities. American Honda Motor Co. and Omaze teamed up to make the contest happen.
“We’re grateful to everyone who helped us raise over a half-million dollars in grants to support the Thurgood Marshall College Fund through the Honda Civic Type R Omaze sweepstakes,” Yvette Hunsicker, vice president of the Corporate Social Responsibility and Inclusion & Diversity Divisions, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. said in a press release.
“This is truly a win-win result, with a loyal Honda fan winning our pinnacle Civic Type R and HBCUs receiving much-needed assistance at a time when the students and schools need extra support due to the community impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Civic Type R wasn’t the only prize that Zander won
In addition to winning one of the most exclusive and most expensive Honda Civics to ever roam the streets, Zander also won a track experience on Honda’s Proving Ground with none other than Honda Indy Car driver Colton Herta for a “once-in-a-lifetime” track-driving experience.
“As a diehard Honda fan and past Civic owner, winning the very first Civic Type R Limited Edition in the U.S. is beyond my wildest dreams, and having Colton Herta personally guide me around the track was one of the greatest experiences of my life,” said Zander. “I’m so grateful that I took a chance and entered – this is truly once-in-a-lifetime.”
The Honda Civic Type R LE is quite the street-worthy track monster
The 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition that Zander won is the first of only 600 exclusive copies that were brought to the U.S. The Civic Type R Limited Edition adds to the Civic Type R’s race-ready formula with a set of lightweight BBS wheels wrapped in Michelin Cup 2 tires. The Limited Edition also has more sound deadening removed to save weight and it also removes the cargo cover, rear heated ducts, and rear window wiper reports Car Scoops.
Considering the MSRP on the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition is set at around $44,000, Zander’s win is extremely fortunate. But we can also take into consideration that most of the dealerships that have one of these select Civic Type Rs in stock are marking them up by $10,000 to $20,000. In that case, Zander’s entry was even more fortunate. And we thought that no one really won those Omaze sweepstakes.
