Accent
The Hyundai Accent is a subcompact sedan model produced by the Hyundai Motor Company. Currently the smallest and cheapest car in the Hyundai vehicle catalog, the Accent is priced and sized below the Hyundai Elantra compact sedan.
First debuting in 1994, the Hyundai Accent (an acronym for “Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology”) was touted as a replacement for the outgoing Hyundai Excel model. However, the first-generation Accent was still referred to as the Excel in some markets. Additionally, the Accent has been sold overseas under various brands and nameplates during its lifetime, including as the Dodge Brisa, the Hyundai Brio, and the Hyundai Solaris. Since its second generation, the Accent has also been exclusively sold as the Verna in its home of South Korea.
Currently in its fifth generation, the Hyundai Accent survives as an affordable and reliable small car. Its most notable rivals still on the market in the U.S. include the Kia Rio, the Mitsubishi Mirage, and the Nissan Versa.
