The Jeep Compass is a compact SUV model produced and sold by the Jeep division of Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA)). The Jeep Compass is priced and sized between the Jeep Renegade and Cherokee SUVs.
The beginning of the Compass can be traced to the 2002 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, where Jeep debuted the Compass as a concept vehicle boasting a two-door body, all-wheel drive, and a V6 engine taken from the Jeep Liberty.
The first production model of the Jeep Compass lost the V6 engine and two-door build of its concept but kept its styling cues. It debuted alongside the Jeep Patriot at the 2006 North American International Auto Show and went on sale a few months later for the 2007 model year. The Jeep Patriot was discontinued after a single generation, with the redesigned second generation of the Compass introduced in 2016 as its replacement.
With its compact SUV build and off-road styling, competitors of the Jeep Compass include the GMC Terrain, the Hyundai Tucson, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, the Nissan Rogue, the Subaru Crosstrek, and the Toyota RAV4.
