expedition
The Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV model produced and sold by the Ford Motor Company. Sized and priced above the Ford Edge and Ford Explorer SUVs, the Expedition was first introduced as a replacement for the Ford Bronco after the latter’s declining sales numbers (in addition to its unwanted attention after a particular famous former football star’s police chase). Bigger than the Bronco, the Expedition was Ford’s first full-size SUV and is the largest SUV model in the Ford vehicle catalog.
Introduced in 1996 for the 1997 model year, the Ford Expedition was not the first vehicle to use the Expedition nameplate. Before its official debut, the name Expedition had been used for an Eddie Bauer concept vehicle and as a trim level on the Ford Explorer SUV.
Currently in its fourth generation since a 2018 model year redesign, the Ford Expedition is also available as the Expedition EL (and extended wagon version only available in Canada and Mexico) and in a luxury variant as the Lincoln Navigator. Its most notable rivals on the road include the Chevrolet Tahoe, the Nissan Armada, and the Toyota Sequoia.
