The Ford Fusion is a midsize sedan model produced and sold by the Ford Motor Company. Sized and priced between the Ford Focus and Ford Taurus sedans, the Fusion (along with the Fiesta, Focus, C-Max, and Taurus) was discontinued after a new strategy from the Ford Motor Company to focus on selling SUVs and trucks to American drivers. The only car to survive the onslaught was the Ford Mustang muscle car.
First produced, introduced, and sold in 2005, the Ford Fusion stood out due to its distinctive grille styling, initially as the first car to premiere Ford’s three-bar grille design and then later with its chrome mesh face. However, the most notable aspect of the Fusion was its powertrain options. The Fusion offered a gasoline engine, an EcoBoost engine, a hybrid powertrain, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain during its run.
The 2020 Ford Fusion was the final model year for the nameplate. During its run, the midsize sedan’s main competitors included the Chevrolet Malibu, the Kia Optima, the Mazda6, the Nissan Altima, and the Volkswagen Passat.
