The Mercedes-Benz GLS is a luxury full-size SUV model produced and sold by Mercedes-Benz, a subsidiary of the Daimler AG multinational automotive corporation. Within the Mercedes-Benz vehicle catalog of SUV models, the GLS is sized and priced above the Mercedes-Benz GLE luxury midsize SUV. Additionally, while the GLS is the largest SUV offered by Mercedes-Benz, it’s priced below the performance- and off-road-focused Mercedes-Benz G-Class luxury SUV.
The GLS was introduced at the 2006 North American International Auto Show as the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. As a full-size, three-row SUV option, the model was originally intended to replace the aging Mercedes-Benz G-Class but instead carried out separately as an SUV equivalent of the S-Class sedan. During its second generation, the model received a facelift in 2016 and was renamed the Mercedes-Benz GLS to comply with the company’s new naming conventions.
Now in its third generation, which premiered at the 2019 New York International Auto Show, the size, power, safety, and features of the Mercedes-Benz GLS full-size luxury SUV receive competition from the Cadillac Escalade, the Land Rover Range Rover, the Lexus LX, and the Lincoln Navigator.
