The Honda HR-V is a subcompact SUV model produced and sold by the Honda Motor Company. Sized and priced under the popular Honda CR-V, the HR-V was offered as the SUV version of the Honda Fit.
The Honda HR-V (High-rider Revolutionary Vehicle) was initially based on the Honda Logo, a supermini model that was a predecessor to the Fit. Its first generation debuted as the boxy J-WJ concept model with wrap-around windows, in stark contrast to its modern appearance. It debuted at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show and the 1998 Geneva Motor Show and was produced until 2006. After a sizeable hiatus, the second generation of the Honda HR-V debuted at the 2013 North American Auto Show with a completely new look, now based on the Honda Fit.
A redesigned third generation of the Honda HR-V has already been released in Japan and Europe. Sadly, American drivers aren’t set to receive this upgraded vehicle. Competitors of the Honda HR-V include the Hyundai Kona, the Mazda CX-30, the Nissan Kicks, the Subaru Crosstrek, and the Volkswagen Taos.
