The Hyundai Kona is a subcompact SUV model produced and sold by the Hyundai Motor Company. It is sized and priced between the even smaller Hyundai Venue subcompact SUV and the Hyundai Tucson compact SUV.
With a design meant to evoke a modern and progressive era, the Hyundai Kona debuted and released in 2017. It is sold under various nameplates in international markets, including the Hyundai Encino and the Hyundai Kauai. Both the Kona and Kauai are named after places in Hawaii, following the tradition of Hyundai naming its SUVs after famous travel locations (Tucson, Santa Fe, etc.). Other standout metrics of the model include the Hyundai Kona Electric that debuted overseas in 2018 and hit American shores in 2019. A performance-focused Hyundai Kona N-Line variant is also on its way.
Competitors of the Hyundai Kona and its EV variant include the Chevy Bolt EUV, the Kia Niro and Niro EV, the Kia Seltos, the Kia Soul, the Mazda CX-30, and the Subaru Crosstrek.
