The Subaru Legacy is a midsize sedan model produced and sold by the automobile manufacturing division of the Subaru Corporation. One of only two sedan models currently offered by Subaru, the Legacy is sized and priced above the Subaru Impreza compact sedan.
The first generation of the Subaru Legacy was introduced in 1998. Its midsize build was designed to compete in the North American market against the Honda Accord, the Mazda6, the Nissan Stanza (later succeeded by the Nissan Altima), and the Toyota Camry.
The Subaru Legacy was initially offered with the option of a four-door sedan or (like other Subaru models) a five-door wagon body. However, the Legacy is currently only offered as a sedan in North America.
Now in its seventh generation and offered with standard symmetrical all-wheel drive in the U.S., additional rivals to the Subaru Legacy include (or included) the Chevrolet Malibu, the Ford Fusion, and the Hyundai Sonata.
