The Nissan Maxima is a full-size sedan model produced and sold by the Nissan Motor Corporation. About as close as you can get to luxury without upgrading to the Infiniti division, the Maxima is priced and sized above the Nissan Altima and features upscale style, performance, and features.
The Nissan Maxima can trace its roots back to the tangled era of the Datsun and Nissan Bluebird. The Datsun Bluebird was sold as the Nissan Bluebird after the Datsun brand was phased out. A European Bluebird model was eventually rebadged as the Nissan Auster and replaced by the Nissan Primera. Finally, a Primera model with a V6 engine was called Maxima, which ultimately spun off to become its own unique model. Through this timeline, the first official Maxima was released back in 1980, and the nameplate is currently on sale with its eighth generation.
Now, the Nissan Maxima model is considered the flagship of the Nissan brand. Its full-size sedan competitors include the Chevrolet Impala, the Chrysler 300, the Toyota Avalon, and the Volkswagen Arteon.
