model 3
The Tesla Model 3 is a compact electric luxury sedan model produced and sold by Tesla (formerly Tesla Motors Inc.). The Model 3 wasn’t the first Tesla model to be made or sold to drivers, but it’s by and large the most popular. Almost singlehandedly responsible for reviving interest in EVs, the infamy of the Tesla Model 3 has made the company a household name in just a few years.
The history of the Tesla Model 3 began modestly with a limited production run and rollout in 2017. Marketed as an affordable and yet luxurious EV, as well as the most affordable Tesla model to date when compared against the Model S, the Tesla Model 3 skyrocketed to success shortly after its debut, becoming the world’s best-selling plug-in electric car from 2018 to 2020 and becoming the very first EV to pass 1 million global sales in June 2021.
Now, as electric vehicles become more popular and dominant in the automotive market, the Tesla Model 3 is beginning to see stiff competition from the Mazda MX-30, the Fiat 500 Electric, the Chevy Bolt, the Kia Niro EV, and more. Time will tell if it remains the king of the compact EVs.
