The Nissan Murano is a premium midsize SUV model produced and sold by the Nissan Motor Corporation. Designed to be more luxurious than the rest of the Nissan SUV catalog, the Murano is sized and priced between the Nissan Xterra compact SUV and the Nissan Pathfinder midsize SUV.
Introduced at the 2002 New York International Auto Show, the 2003 Nissan Murano was the first crossover SUV produced by Nissan and its only crossover SUV option until the 2007 introduction of the 2008 Nissan Rogue. In addition to the standard Murano model, variants of the nameplate have included the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet convertible, which ran from the 2011 to 2014 model years, and the Nissan Murano Hybrid, which was only available on the 2016 model year.
In a unique place within the Nissan vehicle catalog as a semi-luxury SUV, competitors of the Nissan Murano include the Dodge Durango, the GMC Acadia, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Honda Passport, the Hyundai Santa Fe, and the Toyota Venza.
