Elon Musk has finally announced the date of Tesla AI Day: August 19, 2021. Musk initially tweeted about AI day back in June, mentioning that it would be primarily for recruiting talented people to work on Tesla artificial intelligence. At that time, there wasn’t much more information than that. Now we have a date to look forward to.

What is the purpose of Tesla AI Day?

Tesla often has ‘days’ which allow it to delve into a topic. This will be Tesla’s first artificial intelligence only day, which is exciting. Tesla AI Day will serve two purposes: it will showcase Tesla’s latest innovations and advancements with its artificial intelligence, as well as give Tesla the opportunity to recruit new talent. With Tesla having recently released the Full Self-Driving update, AI Day will be a great opportunity to learn more about how that’s going, provided Tesla chooses to cover that.

When Musk first announced AI Day, it was by tweet, as is most of his communications. He tweeted, “Looking at holding Tesla AI Day in about a month or so. Will go over progress with Tesla AI software & hardware, both training & inference. Purpose is recruiting.”

As MSN notes, Musk isn’t necessarily all-about artificial intelligence. He realizes its limitations, and isn’t afraid to say so. MSN writes, “Musk has expressed his concerns about the threat of AI on multiple occasions, calling it ‘potentially more dangerous than nukes’ and worrying that we might turn AI into ‘an immortal dictator from which we would never escape.’” This idea is terrifying.

Why does Tesla want to recruit new people?

Tesla is known for its use of artificial intelligence in its cars, and anytime a company is investing so much time and money in one area (especially when that area is technology), they’re going to want to recruit the best and brightest. Musk is a non-traditional CEO and is always looking for people interested in the field of artificial intelligence to join Tesla. He once tweeted, “In general, anyone interested in working on physical-word AI problems, should consider joining Tesla. Fastest path to deploying your ideas in real life.”

In addition to Full Self-Driving, Tesla also recently revealed their newest supercomputer, which is currently the fifth most powerful computer in the world. They’re also working on the Dojo project, which will be responsible for much of Tesla’s future capabilities and will be capable of one exaFLOP (which is hugely important in the world of computers).

What other days does Tesla host?

In addition to Tesla AI Day, Tesla celebrates innovation (as well advertises and recruits) using other themed days, as well. Previous days dedicated to Tesla ideas include Tesla Autonomy Day and Tesla Battery Day.

Tesla AI Day is sure to be a hugely popular event, especially with Teslas very committed fanbase. Certainly people want to see what Tesla is working on. Since Elon Musk often unveils new products or ideas in unconventional ways, it feels as though anything is possible at Tesla AI Day – and that’s exactly what Tesla is counting on.
