Tesla CEO Musk Driving Cybertruck Coast To Coast

Tesla’s founder and CEO Elon Musk have a knack for generating publicity. And we’re sure he is seeing all of the publicity at the feet of Ford with this week’s 2021 F150 reveal and the anticipation of the Bronco reveal next week. So now Musk says he’ll do a “cross-country drive with the Cybertruck later this year.” He wants people to see the Cybertruck to help them make up their own minds. So bring it on. Musk is driving the Cybertruck coast to coast. Why not?

Let’s face it, the Cybertruck is polarizing. Its look runs contrary to many auto design tenets that have existed forever. But Musk and chief designer Franz von Holzhausen are crafty and talented. Von Holzhausen was a designer at GM for years. Remember the Pontiac Solstice? That was Franz’s work.

Musk choosing to drive the Cybertruck coast to coast is a great idea

One of the best ways to ease people into a radical design is to expose them to it. So Musk choosing to drive the truck across the country is a great idea. It will generate even more publicity but more importantly, it will put more eyes on the Cybertruck. In the clip with Jay Leno driving it around Los Angeles, you can see people’s reactions. Imagine that in a less-jaded New Mexico. Or Houston. Or how about Miami?

If Musk’s goal is to sign up more customers, not that he needs to, this is another way to do it. Many need to squeeze the bread before buying it. With an estimate of 650,000 orders with a $100 deposit already booked, Musk should be more concerned with filling Cybertruck orders than generating more. Still, this bit just can’t lose.

The Cybertruck has maintained interest and demand months after its reveal

According to electrek, Tesla reservations for previous models fell off after a couple of months. Not so with the Cybertruck. It has maintained interest and demand months after its debut in November 2019.

Texas and the midwest is truck country. Why not take it out to the regions where it resonates the best? It would be an alien force in an F150 universe. And it would be more than a curiosity. Pitched sideways rumbling into town it would be a party. A celebration of the kooky Californian with the crazy Cybertruck. We could see whole towns flock to take it all in.

There is no way any other truck manufacturer could pull off an “event” like this

There is no way that any of the other truck manufacturers could pull off an “event” like this. As controversial as the Chevy Silverado design is, it’s still just a pickup truck. The Cybertruck is something else. Musk knows this and should be able to take full advantage of what he has.

The wild, weird, wonderful world of the Cybertruck will make its next splash “later this year.” You’ll know when it is happening because that’s what Tesla and Musk to best.
