Don’t call the Tesla Cybertruck dainty just yet. Sure, the 2021 Tesla Cybertruck has a unique look that doesn’t exactly scream ‘work truck,’ but it deserves a chance. That’s why it went to a construction site to show off its abilities. 

The 2021 Cybertruck went to work 

The 2021 Telsa Cybertruck was recently spotted surrounded by burly construction workers, getting down and dirty. It was in Gigafactory, Texas. It’s unclear if the Cybertruck actually helped get any work done. However, this allowed the truck to be seen in a new light. 

Previously, the truck has been viewed with dark backgrounds as a futuristic concept. This fails to display what the Cybertruck can actually do. It also looks pretty different from the typical work truck a construction worker would go for. 

But perhaps the Cybertruck will prove itself as a useful, durable, and capable option that’s perfect for worksites and tackling challenges that gas-powered options can’t handle. For example, in the unveiling video, someone dents a pickup truck door with a sledgehammer, but the hammer simply bonuses off the side of the Cybertruck. 

Is the Tesla Cybertruck a work truck? 

The 2021 Tesla Cybertruck could serve as the perfect option for fleets as an affordable all-steel option. While some people think it’s too weird as a pentagon-shaped slab of metal, others were excited to see it covered in mud. 

But the angled sides of the truck bed may make it difficult to swing tools and materials into the back. It certainly makes it interesting for adding rack and bin packages, ladder racks, and wheel well toolboxes. 

However, the Cybertruck can carry a payload of up to 3,500 lbs and tow up to 14,000 lbs. The more traditional-looking Ford F-150 Lightning can carry a payload of up to 2,000 lbs and tow up to 7,000 lbs. So, the Cybertruck is the more robust electric truck. 

The Cybertruck has a bed that’s 6.5 feet long. Plus, it has 100 cubic feet of lockable storage in the front and rear, allowing it to carry massive loads. It has a ground clearance of 16 inches and is expected to be able to swim. So, it may perform as a capable off-roader at any job site. 

Does the Cybertruck have good features for work sites? 

The base model Tesla Cybertruck begins at around $39,900. This is seen as a good deal for fleets but feels pricey to us. The Tri-Motor variant that can tow up to 14,000 lbs starts at about $69,900. For all-wheel-drive, you need to upgrade to the Dual Motor option for $49,900. 

But the Cybertruck does a pretty good job at reducing range anxiety. With the tri-motor option, you get 800 hp, 1,000 lb-ft of torque, and an estimated range of 500 miles. That’s certainly enough juice for daily commutes. 

Also, the Cybertruck provides comfortable seating for up to six passengers. An attractive 17-inch touchscreen offers access to all the vehicle systems, including the tailgate that turns into a ramp. 

Sure, the steel frame is heavier than aluminum, but it’s also more durable. As the Tesla Cybertruck continues to push the envelope, we need to test it for ourselves to determine how capable it is for work and play.
