You might look at a Lexus and think, “that’s simply not going to do.” If this describes you, you might want a different high-end luxury car instead. However, you don’t have to pick a vehicle that will cost as much to maintain as it did to buy. Instead, you should consider one of Kelley Blue Book’s (KBB’s) picks for the cheapest high-end luxury cars to own over a five-year period, like the Tesla Model S.

  • Tesla Model S
  • Porsche Taycan
  • Jaguar F-Type
  • Mercedes-Benz CLS

Is a Tesla Model S worth buying?

The Tesla Model S tops KBB’s list of the cheapest high-end luxury cars to own. With a cost to own of $74,038, the Model S is nearly $10,000 more affordable than a comparable Porsche Taycan. According to KBB, the Model S depreciates $45,197 in five years. In comparison, the Mercedes-Benz CLS depreciates over $5,000 more than the Tesla sedan in the same period.

Times are changing, and two of the least expensive high-end luxury cars to own are electric vehicles (EVs).  However, the news isn’t all celebratory for the Tesla Model S. Insuring a Telsa Model S could cost $8,065 over five years, around $1,500 more than a Taycan.

Is the Porsche Taycan a luxury car?

The Porsche Taycan is the Zuffenhausen marque’s foray into electric luxury and its gaining popularity. However, it has a five-year cost to own of $82,056, so it’s quite a bit more expensive to run than the comparable Tesla. However, it is quite a bit cheaper to insure than the Tesla sedan, and it has the illustrious badge of the German powerhouse.

Is the Jaguar F-Type worth it?

Here’s the great surprise of KBB’s list, a two-door Jaguar is in a spot of reverence on a list for high-end luxury cars. Still, the interior is posh, and the soundtrack is intoxicating, especially from the supercharged V8 offerings. However, with five-year fuel costs of $12,392, it’s obviously pricer to feed than the two list-topping EVs. Given the thirsty nature of the performance luxury car, the F-Type has a cost to own of $80,326, over $6,000 more than the Tesla Model S.

Is the Mercedes-Benz CLS a luxury car?

The Mercedes-Benz CLS four-door sedan rounds out the list of the cheapest luxury cars to own. With a five-year cost to own of $87,621, the CLS might not seem like an option you should associate with the word “cheap.” However, it costs quite a bit less than the Jaguar F-Type to fuel and insure. That said, it still depreciates more than its competition on this list, losing around $50,737 of the original cost.

Should you buy a Tesla Model S instead of the other luxury cars?

If you’re in the market for a high-end luxury car, you should consider a Tesla Model S or Porsche Taycan. EVs can fill the luxury car market, and the Model S is an excellent example of electric cars doing just that. Just make sure that you save a little money for insurance.
