According to InsideEVs, Tesla investors are anxiously waiting to see when the Tesla Gigafactory Texas will get going. That’s because, the more quickly the Texas Tesla factory is able to produce a large number of Tesla Model Ys, the more of an impact that will have on the 2022 numbers. Another reason that Tesla stock is dependent upon the Tesla Gigafactory Texas is the Tesla Cybertruck. The Cybertruck is supposed to begin production at the Tesla Gigafactory after the Model Y.

InsideEVs points to Wedbush’s Daniel Ives as the source of the Tesla Gigafactory Texas information. Ives tweeted, “Based on our analysis of Giga Austin it appears paperwork is now clearing the way for Model Y production starting over the next 7-10 days.”

In addition, it appears that the Tesla Gigafactory Texas is ready to start making the Model Y specifically. Ives also wrote, “We believe the stamping machines for Model Y and testing is already in place and mostly completed, green light for Tesla to kick off Austin.”

How big is the Tesla Gigafactory in Texas?

The Tesla Gigafactory Austin is going to be enormous, at 4.28 million square feet. It will also be the largest building in the world that’s powered by renewable energy. While obviously a huge building, it isn’t quite as large as Tesla’s California plant, which is 5.3 million square feet.

The Texas Gigafactory will also be split into sections. These sections will be divided by the role that each will play in the production of Teslas. The sections include general assembly, stamping, and casting. Once the Tesla Model Y has gone into production, it will be followed by the Tesla Cybertruck. After that, Tesla may produce Model 3s and the Tesla Semi at the Ausin Gigafactory.

The new Tesla Model Y may have a new structural design

The next generation of Tesla Model Ys may have a structural battery pack. What does this mean? The Tesla Model Y won’t have a floor but instead, will only have a battery pack. Car parts will be attached to the battery pack instead of the floor. This would make the Model Y lighter, which also means that it should get more miles per charge.

With all of the things that could come out of the new Tesla Gigafactory Texas, it will be exciting to see how quickly Tesla is able to ramp up production. Perhaps even more interesting will be whether Tesla begins producing the Cybertruck after the Model Y. After all, that’s what everyone is really dying to see.
