The 2018 Honda Accord was the first year of the current generation. Its complete redesign included new turbocharged engines along with an updated interior with upgraded electronics. While the Accord coupe was discontinued, the redesign included a new exterior shape with a coupe-like fastback roofline. The new shape is also lower and wider and has a more aggressive look than in the past. Autotrader calls this the “most radical overhaul of this best-seller in decades.”

The 2018 Honda Accord is a great option for buyers looking for a family sedan. It offers plenty of space for passengers and cargo. The interior is as big as in the past but Autotrader says it “looks far better” and includes high-quality materials.

While the base trim has a seven-inch radio display, higher trims offer an eight-inch touchscreen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, plus the HondaLink in-car apps. Autotrader found it easier to use than in past models. The redesigned Accord also provides plenty of driver-assist safety technology. All five trim levels include forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking. Higher trims offer blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert systems. The highest Touring trim includes premium features, including ventilated front seats, rear heated seats, a head-up display, Wi-Fi, wireless smartphone charging, and front and rear parking sensors.

Powertrains of the 2018 Honda Accord

The 2018 Accord offers two powerful engine options, and both are turbocharged four-cylinders. There is also a hybrid version. The standard engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, generating 192 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is available on the Sport, EX-L, and Touring trims. It’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 1.5-liter engine is rated for 30 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway, and 33 mpg combined for most of the trim levels. The combined rating drops to 31 mpg for the Sport and Touring trims. The optional no cost six-speed manual transmission on the Sport also reduces the fuel efficiency to 31 mpg.

The 2.0-liter engine is rated for 23 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined in the EX-L trim. Picking the Sport or Touring trims reduces the fuel efficiency to 26 mpg combined. The optional six-speed manual transmission in the Sport also drops the rating to 26 mpg.

The car is also “composed and comfortable to drive,” according to Autotrader, although its steering isn’t as responsive as in past years. For a different option, there is a Sport model available.

As a new car, the 2018 Honda Accord had a higher starting price than its competitors. Its original starting price was between $23,600 and $35,800. Today its price range is between $20,500 and $27,950, according to Consumer Reports. This used car, the first of the current generation, is an outstanding choice for anyone and best in its class for many of its features. It’s enjoyable to drive and a great option for families.
