The 10 Coolest Blacked-out SUVs
Next time you’re at the hip café near the hip college, take a look at the SUVs. They’re most likely all-black or “murdered-out” versions of regular SUVs, with black wheels, black trim, and black paint. The all-black SUV is the new fashion accessory. And now manufacturers are responding and making their own blacked-out SUVs that look like customs from the showroom. These are some of the coolest you can find at your local dealer.
Land Rover Defender 110 Bond Edition
How cool is the blacked-out SUV from Land Rover, the Bond Edition, that was designed to look like the Rovers in the “No Time To Die” film? Too bad Land Rover is only making 300 Bond Edition SUVs, and not, they don’t have ejector seats. But the Defender, which starts at $53,500, can be ordered with the extended black exterior pack for $1,310 that darkens the front end.
Rolls Royce Black Badge Cullinan
It’s hard not to be stunned by the Black Badge line from Rolls Royce that combines the “murdered-out” look with some thin yellow pinstripes that show off the body lines. How much is a Black Badge, well, Rolls’ website only gives you a cryptic “make an enquiry” button because every Black Badge is bespoke. You know it will be expensive, but it looks great.
Kia Seltos Nightfall
The Nightfall edition of the Seltos makes this usually friendly SUV stand out with a dark smoke exterior and special multi-smoke wheels. It starts at $27,040 but includes a lot of the stuff you don’t get on the base Seltos, not the least of which is the hotter turbocharged motor. You also get leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, and a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen.
The Larger Telluride, too, can get the Nightfall treatment.
Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara Altitude
The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara Altitude 4X4 package is the long way of saying, “blacked-out Wrangler.” The Altitude package gets some trim and special 18-inch gloss-black wheels. It starts at $42,545, but also comes with a lot of the niceties, since it’s an upgraded Sahara trim.
Audi Q5 Black Optic
A new Black optic package is available for Q5 45 TFSI, Q5 Sportback 45 TFSI, and Q5 55 TFSI e, and includes Black exterior trim, and 20-inch wheels with all-season tires. The Optional Black optic package includes black accents on the door blades, grille, roof rails, window surrounds, and front and rear bumpers of the Q5 that make this five-seat family hauler seem somehow sinister.
Subaru Ascent Onyx Edition Limited
The $41,295 Onyx edition of the three-row 2023 Subaru Onyx comes with blacked-out badging, 20-inch wheels, a surround-view monitor, black water-repellent seats, and a ton more. The Onyx also has power seats and an 11.6-inch touchscreen. The Onyx Edition comes with dual-zone X-MODE, and all-wheel drive with hill descent control, too. It’s also highly rated as one of the most reliable SUVs by J.D. Power.
Toyota C-HR Nightshade
The C-HR is a stylish little crossover that looks sinister with the Nightshade package. It starts at $25,045 and gets black wheels, black door handles, badges, roof, and gunmetal trim inside. The C-HR may not be the fastest crossover on the road, with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, but it is stylish.
4Runner 40th anniversary
For the 40th anniversary of the 4Runner, Toyota took to blacking out most of the 4Runner for an anniversary package. The rest of it, including the iconic orange stripes and bronze wheels, looks like it’s straight out of 1982, not 2022. But act fast, Toyota is only making 4,040 of the 40th anniversary packages.
BMW X5 xDrive40i Black Vermilion
The 2022 BMW X5 in all-wheel-drive xDrive40i trim can be had in a brooding black-over-red Black Vermilion package that adds some serious style. The grille gets red teeth to match the red brake calipers, and the semi-gloss black paint gives it a look that is certain to get looks. Too bad they only made 350 units of this $83,295 SUV.
Honda Pilot Black Edition
For 2022, Honda released the Honda Pilot in a Black Edition for $50,620. Black Edition blacked-out SUV adds black-painted wheels, blackout trim on the grille, window surround, and door sash, red interior lighting, and red highlights in the perforated leather. Weirdly, Honda also offers the Black Version in Platinum White Pearl color, for two-tone madness.
Toyota Sienna Nightshade
Yeah, it’s not a blacked-out SUV, but the sheer audacity of Toyota to try it makes it notable. For the 2020 model year, the Sienna SE and SE Premium minivan were available in Nightshade trims. You can’t get one new today. Still, many of us hope that Toyota brings back the $700 package.
