The 2014 Honda Pilot is the Best Used Midsize SUV for Under $15,000, Says KBB
If you need seating for eight, are shopping on a budget, and don’t want a minivan, then the 2014 Honda Pilot is the SUV for you. It’s spacious, reliable, and definitely won’t break the bank. And to further sweeten the deal? This used SUV comes stocked with features.
Not surprisingly, the 2014 Honda Pilot was also included in Kelley Blue Book’s list of the ‘10 Best Used Midsize SUVs Under $15,000.’ They aren’t the only ones giving this used SUV high marks either.
The 2014 Honda Pilot was made for families
There’s no denying that the Honda Pilot is an excellent SUV for families. Kelley Blue Book reports that its interior is a “study in efficiency” with its logically placed controls and pleasing design. Design aside, the 2014 Pilot is loaded with features too.
Standard on all models is 3-zone climate control, an 8-inch multi-information display, and a 7-speaker sound system. Step up to the EX, and added features include a 10-way-power driver’s seat. The EX-L, meanwhile, includes a moonroof, leather seating with heated front seats, and a power liftgate. For a true treat, opt for the range-topping EX-L, which includes features like a premium sound system.
2014 Honda Pilot rankings, ratings, and reviews
Of course, interior amenities aren’t everything. While they can certainly help seal the deal, it’s also worth taking an SUV’s rankings, ratings, and reviews into consideration. Fortunately for the 2014 Honda Pilot, it does pretty well for itself.
When it comes to safety, it earned itself a 4 out of 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA.) The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also gave it mostly ‘Good’ crashworthiness ratings, save for the small overlap front: driver-side test, which it earned a ‘Poor’ rating in.
And when it comes to quality and reliability? While J.D. Power gave it an 84 out of 100 quality and reliability rating, Consumer Reports gave it a 4 out of 5 reliability rating. The 2014 Honda Pilot also earned the ‘Seal of Awesome’ from CarComplaints.com.
What Pilot owners have to say about it
The 2014 Honda Pilot does have its faults, though. According to CarComplaints.com, the biggest gripes owners have with it concern its body paint peeling and the SUV vibrating both when the brakes are applied and when it’s put into Eco mode.
“Every time the RPM hits 2000 the ECO – VCM kicks in and the car vibrates. You will not sense this in the test run. In traffic it is a nightmare,” reads one of the complaints. Another goes on to explain, “The vibration goes away when you give the car the gas.” They added that the “noise is very loud and sounds serious.”
Overall, though, owners are satisfied with the 2014 Honda Pilot. According to a survey from Consumer Reports, 68% of Pilot owners would even go so far as to buy this SUV again.
Is a used Honda Pilot worth buying?
All in all, it’s easy to see why Kelley Blue Book placed the 2014 Honda Pilot in the top spot on its list of the ‘10 Best Used Midsize SUVs Under $15,000.’ Between its wallet-friendly price tag, amenity-laden interior, and its high rankings across the board, the 2014 Honda Pilot has proven itself as a used SUV worth buying.
