The Chevrolet Equinox has evolved into one of the most attractive SUVs in today’s market. This Chevy has gained mass appeal thanks to its smooth ride quality and roomy cabin. While it’s tempting to purchase a brand-new Equinox, buying used is the savvy way to go. And as you shop used models, you’ll see that the 2017 Equinox is one of the reliable options to get.

The Equinox doesn’t have the same track record of reliability that its rival, the RAV4, does. But even so, the Equinox has proved to be a reliable car overall. The 2017 Equinox stands out from all the rest because Consumer Reports gave it a five out of five rating for predicted reliability. The 2017 Equinox is the only version that has such a high score.

CR determines its dependability ratings based on testing across 17 potential trouble spots, including a vehicle’s engine, transmission, and brakes. Similarly, U.S. News highlights that J.D. Power gave the 2017 Equinox a near-perfect score for dependability.

At the time of this writing, there are no NHTSA safety recalls for the 2017 Equinox. Also, according to the NHTSA, there are only 44 complaints about this model. That’s a low number, especially considering Chevrolet sold 290,458 Equinoxes in 2017.

Driving dynamics

Chevy’s Equinox is one of the best SUVs to suit your daily driving needs. The Equinox is a mild-mannered ride and is notably quiet for the class. CR mostly recognized the Equinox for the level of comfort it provides.

“The Equinox rides well, shrugging off bumps and ruts and mopping up pavement flaws. Uneven pavement elicits some gentle rocking which is unobjectionable. It’s a smooth cruise on the highway.”

Consumer Reports (2017)

The 2017 Equinox features two engine options. It came standard with 182-hp 2.4-liter, four-cylinder. For more power, shop models with the available 301-hp 3.6-liter V6. Both engines are linked to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Most drivers will be satisfied with the base engine, but CR and U.S. News reviewers felt it was dull. Critics also took points away from the Equinox for its lack of sportiness. It’s also important to note that the 2017 Equinox is below average for fuel economy. It returned a combined 18 mpg in CR’s road test.

Cabin comforts

Throughout the years, the Equinox has consistently earned praise for its spacious interior. This SUV seats up to five people, and its seats are accommodating for extended drives. Some models will have cloth upholstery, while upgraded models will have leather seats.

The Equinox also offers plenty of in-car tech. Standard infotainment features include a 7-inch touchscreen, a wifi hotspot, and Bluetooth. The Chevy also came with a backup camera, but some versions will have more advanced safety features such as forward-collision warning.

Pricing

The Equinoxes’s calmness and dependability make it an attractive choice. Based on CR’s data, the average price for a used 2017 Equinox falls between $13,925 – $19,375. Depending on mileage, you might also be able to find one for under $10K.
