The Infiniti Q50 is one of the most attractive vehicles under the Nissan umbrella. This luxury car is known for its delightful handling and roomy interior. But its predicted reliability ratings are unattractive. 

What it’s like to drive the 2017 Q50

The Q50’s performance offerings are among its better qualities. There are four different powertrain options for this 2017 model. The base 2.0t trim comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 208-horsepower. There are two available V6 engine options. The 3.0t has a V6 that makes 300-hp, and the Red Sport trim has a V6 that produces 400-hp. To top it off, the hybridized Q50 features a V6 that creates 360-hp. These models came standard with a seven-speed automatic transmission.

For the most powerful and engaging driving experience, you will want to go with either the 3.0t or the Red Sport trim. The standard four-cylinder leaves a lot to be desired. Some critics like U.S. News have deemed this engine option “wheezy and unrefined.” The Q50 Hybrid is also more enjoyable than the 2.0t model. 

The Q50’s interior features are just fine

The Q50 offers a finely detailed car cabin overall, but its mix of wood and metallic trimmings make it feel a little dated. On the bright side, the Q50 comes with refined faux leather upholstery. There’s also plenty of space throughout the Q50’s interior. Taller passengers may not enjoy riding in the backseat for too long, though. 

Newer connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto aren’t available on the 2017 Q50. However, this model does come with some attractive features such as a dual-screen infotainment display setup, Bluetooth, and satellite radio. Some 2017 Q50 models may be equipped with navigation as well as with a 16-speaker Bose audio system. Although the Q50’s two screens aren’t very intuitive, so it might take you some time to get used to them.

The Q50’s reliability ratings aren’t so great 

The Q50’s robust engine options and high depreciation rate make it one of the better luxury options to buy used according to iSeeCars.com. However, you should know that the 2017 Q50 received low predicted reliability ratings from respected critics like J.D. Power and Consumer Reports. CR gave the 2017 Q50 its lowest possible score for reliability. This rating is based on CR’s testing across 17 potential vehicle trouble spots. Potential trouble spots on the Q50 include its drive system and engine major.

You should also know that the 2017 Q50 was recalled three times. The vehicle safety recalls for the Q50 are related to potential issues with its airbags and software. The 2017 Q50 wouldn’t be our first choice for a used luxury vehicle, but if this model is appealing to you, make sure to address the recalls with your auto dealer.
