Honda entirely redesigned the Accord in 2018 to much fanfare. The 2018 Accord boasted sharper looks and more modern technology offerings. And even as a used car, this Honda still impresses with its well-rounded nature.

2018 Honda Accord performance 

Much of the Accord’s superiority in the midsize sedan class comes from its dynamic powertrain options. The 2018 Accord features three flavors. We’d say that most drivers will be happy with the Accord’s base engine, which is a 192-hp, 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder linked to a continuously variable automatic transmission.

The Accord is among the quickest in the class. But as  Consumer Reports highlighted, the Accord’s CVT can intensify its engine noise as you reach higher speeds. The excess noise doesn’t have to be a dealbreaker, though. And if you’re interested, you can shop Sport trim models which will have a six-speed manual. 

If you require more power, look for Accords with the available 252-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that’s paired to a 10-speed automatic. Out of the two turbocharged options, the base engine is certainly the better choice regarding fuel efficiency. The standard engine has an EPA rating of 33 mpg. 

That said, if fuel economy is one of your more significant priorities, consider the Accord Hybrid, which can return up to 47 mpg. Whichever variant you choose, you’ll find that this Honda offers a unique blend of sportiness and practicality. Critics have also praised the Accord for its comfort levels. As CR put it, the Accord is a “happy compromise” between sporty dynamics and family-friendliness. 

Creature comforts

In addition to its simplified powertrains, the redesigned Accord also came with a more upscale car cabin. The Accord is wonderfully spacious and has seats for five. When it was new, CR noted that the 2018 Accord had more high-quality trimmings and that its cabin was much quieter. 

“Quietness is a highlight of the Accord, and the Hybrid version isolates road and wind noise especially well. We only observed some occasional engine flaring, where the CVT allows the engine to rev to high rpm. Active noise cancelling broadcasts “anti-noise” from the vehicle’s speakers to mask certain engine sounds.”

The Accord also impresses with its in-car tech. Honda prioritized safety for its famed midsize sedan in 2018. Standard safety features for the 2018 Accord include forward-collision warning, traffic sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control. Base models also came with infotainment features, including a 7-inch display and Bluetooth. For more connectivity gadgets, look for Accords with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 

Overall reliability

CR gave the 2018 Accord an average rating for predicted reliability. Overall, the Accord has proven to be dependable. Plus, CR says that the Accord is among the cars most likely to last 200,00 miles or more. 

There have been two NHTSA safety recalls on the 2018 Accord. One had to do with its backup camera, the other for its fuel pump. Make sure your dealer adequately addressed these actions before you buy. The average price point for a 2018 Accord falls between $20,225 – $27,650.
