Porsche might be more well-known for its high-performing coupes but the automaker’s SUVs are its top sellers. Take the Porsche Macan for instance. This SUV is one of Porsche’s most popular models, but 2018 might have been the Macan’s best year yet. In 2018, the Macan was Porsche’s best-selling vehicle, which is proof that it’s great. And while it’s true that the 2018 Porsche Macan is a great luxury SUV, it’s not exactly perfect. 

What makes the 2018 Porsche Macan a standout?

The 2018 Porsche Macan is a winner because of its sense of elegance along with its sporty nature. Entry-level 2018 Macan models are equipped with a pleasing four-cylinder engine with 252 horsepower. For a sportier experience, you will want to go up to the Macan S trim that features a 340-hp, 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. Next up is the Macan GTS which adds leather upholstery and a 360-hp V6 engine. If you’re still craving more power, you can opt for the Macan Turbo which offers 400-hp. 

The Macan’s agile handling is complemented with a lush car cabin experience. Everything looks ritzy on the inside, which it should for the price point. The Macan’s seats are welcoming and supportive, but one drawback is that space in the rear-seat is tight. A user-friendly infotainment system with smartphone connectivity makes the 2018 Macan even better. There are many advanced safety features available too. 

On to the flaws 

To be fair, no vehicle is perfect. Not even the upscale ones. One of the more obvious drawbacks of the Macan compared to other luxury SUV options is its below-average fuel economy. That’s to be expected though with potent engines like the ones found on the Macan. 

The 2018 Macan also got points taken off from experts at Consumer Reports for its below-average emergency handling rating and its overall ride quality. But more importantly, you should know that the 2018 Macan was recalled three times. The first recall on this Macan was related to its electrical system. Then the SUV was subsequently recalled for a concern related to its ski bag equipment. Most recently, the Macan was recalled for a potential issue with its fuel system.

It’s still considered a good-used car though 

While the 2018 Macan is still relatively expensive and it had some troubles, it is still considered as a reliable luxury vehicle to buy used. Plus, the Macan is actually one of the cheapest Porsche models you can buy.  Consumer Reports gave the 2018 Macan a good predicted reliability score based on its extensive testing. J.D. Power also gave the Macan a great dependability score.

Porsche Approved kicks in after the initial new car warranty expires and gives drivers two additional years of coverage. The program can also be extended to vehicles up to 13 years old that have fewer than 124,000 miles.
