The 2019 Mazda3 Is Highly Reccomended Despite Its Trouble Spots
Mazda is renowned for its lineup of dashing vehicles, with one of the most compact options being the Mazda3. The Mazda3 was fully redesigned for 2019. This 2019 model impressed with its sporty handling and upscale cabin. And even though it has its trouble spots, the Mazda3 is still an enticing car to buy used.
Driving the Mazda3
The redesigned Mazda3 offers a more upscale driving experience compared to previous model years. As with earlier versions, the 2019 Mazda3 is available as either a sedan or hatchback. The Mazda3 comes with a potent 186-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder. Most models will have a six-speed automatic transmission; some hatchback variants will have a six-speed manual.
In addition to its fun nature, the Mazda3 is also a solid choice if you value fuel economy. The 2019 model has an EPA rating of 30 mpg overall. Besides Subaru’s Impreza, the Mazda3 is the only compact car class option to offer all-wheel-drive as Consumer Reports highlights. However, AWD is only available on Mazda3s with the automatic transmission. CR also recognizes the “3” for its ride comfort.

On the inside, the 3 pleases with a high-quality cabin. It’s so upscale that you might forget that you’re in a Mazda at all. In fact, the 3 does some things better than truly luxury cars like the Mercedes CLA. Standard Mazda3s will have cloth seats; upgraded versions will have faux leather or genuine leather.
The Mazda3 has seats for five. But as U.S. News calls out, the vehicle’s second row will feel cramped to some. Another downside is that the sedan version is below-average for cargo space. For more cargo room, you”ll want to go with the hatchback.
On a brighter note, the Mazda3 offers lots of in-car tech. Base models will have an 8.8-inch display screen, plus Bluetooth and an eight-speaker stereo. For more gadgets, look for upper-level trims with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and advanced safety equipment such as adaptive cruise control.
About those trouble spots
At the time of this writing, there are six NHTSA safety recalls on the 2019 Mazda3. The first three have to do with the car’s instrument panel, wheels, and automatic transmission. The others relate to its front seat assembly, rearward visibility, and automatic emergency braking function.
According to CR’s research, the recalls for the 2019 Mazda3 aren’t that surprising. CR says that the first year of a vehicle’s redesign isn’t always the most reliable. That said, both CR and U.S. News reviewers still recommend the 2019 Mazda3.
While the recalls are cause for concern, there aren’t a significant number of NHTSA complaints on this car. If you are interested in buying a 2019 Mazda3, make sure the dealer properly addressed these actions. The average price for this used car falls between $17,050 – $23,150.
