Automakers like Ford may be cutting sedans from their lineup, but not everyone has given up on cars. In fact, Audi finally gave in to public demand by bringing the A6 to the US.

In order to give it a wider appeal, Audi really focused on adding some of the best safety technology on the market, and it shows. U.S. News was highly impressed with the midsize sedan and ranked it as No. 3 in its segment. Here’s why everyone is so hyped about the new Audi A6.

Why the Audi A6 is a spectacular luxury vehicle

Luxury vehicles tend to come with a high price tag, and the Audi A6 is no exception. The standard trim level costs $54,900. The Audi S6 costs significantly more at $73,900. The question then becomes, is it worth the money? In this case, it is.

Some of the features that Car and Driver are crazy about include the A6’s “hot-rod turbocharged V6 engine, its futuristic interior tech, and the high-quality finishes.” The review site was a little disappointed that the exterior doesn’t make the Audi A6 stand out from other luxury sedans, but otherwise thought it’s a great vehicle. That’s not the say that the A6 is hideous because it isn’t. It just tends to have the same body style as many of its competitors.

The A6 comes with a standard 248-hp turbo-four engine that does well enough, but if you want more power, the 335-hp turbocharged V6 engine has more of a kick to it.

The one thing that many reviewers don’t like is the lack of cargo room. The A6 isn’t exactly a tiny car, but there is a surprisingly small amount of space for things like groceries and suitcases.

The A6 has more than just good looks going for it

The Audi A6 may not stand out on the outside, but the inside is loaded with enough goods to make even the most tech-savvy owner happy. Car and Driver reports, “A hefty load of standard equipment includes touchscreen infotainment with navigation, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, genuine wood trim, and three-zone automatic climate control.”

The safety features are the biggest draw for many consumers. That’s why MotorTrend named the A6 as a finalist in their Car of the Year competition. This was based mostly on the care that Audi took to make the A6 one of the safest sedans on the road. 

The Audi A6 comes with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, and a rearview camera. These are all included as standard features.

Some add-on features include a 360-degree parking camera system, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, a head-up display, intersection crossing assist (which uses sensors to help prevent accidents at intersections), lane keep assist, a night vision assistant with pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and traffic sign recognition.

The Audi A6’s safety accolades

With this many added features, it’s no surprise that the Audi A6 drew the attention of the IIHS, which gave the A6 a Top Safety Pick designation. This was in large part thanks to the excellent crash test scores the A6 got. It even managed to beat out the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. 

The NHTSA was also impressed with the Audi A6 and gave it five out of five stars. Many think that the NHTSA’s crash tests are outdated, and changes are on the way. That being said, the NHTSA is still one of the premier test sites in the world, and its ratings still hold a lot of sway with consumers.
