The green movement is taking over the auto world, but not everyone is jumping on board. There’s just something about a sports car like the Chevy Corvette that some owners can’t resist. The roar of the engine, feeling the car jump forward when you press the gas, and being in control of the vehicle rather than letting new tech tell you what needs to be done is like a siren’s call for many owners.

The real question comes in when you try to decide how much horsepower you can get for the money. For those who buy a sports car, you want power, but that comes with a price. Thankfully, MotorTrend has put together a list of the vehicles with the most horsepower for the cheapest price, and the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray made the list.

Why the 2020 Chevy Corvette is a true sports car

For fans of this type of vehicle, the Chevrolet Corvette is legendary. It’s been around since 1953 and has seen many changes over the years. It has gone from a cramped, but beloved two-seater to a slightly more spacious mid-engine.

The 2020 Corvette made headlines because it was the first mid-engine Corvette. It has a 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine that can push out 490 hp. The 2020 Corvette also has some insane speed. If you get the Z51 Performance Package, the 2020 Chevy Corvette can go from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds.

In fact, the release of the 2020 Corvette had to be delayed due to the fact that its speed was so insane, that it warped the frame. Chevy had to delay the release to figure out how to develop a frame that could handle that sort of speed.

It’s also a surprisingly good daily driver. For owners who drove earlier renditions of the Corvette, this may come as a surprise. Getting in was a hassle, but getting out proved to be the real challenge. That’s not the case anymore. Well, it still is for taller individuals, but it’s not quite the hassle it used to be.

It comes with a squared off wheel that makes seeing the instrument panel easy for the first time, and the seats are actually comfortable. The infotainment system is from this century as well, which is a nice update.

Sadly, it’s currently impossible to get a 2020 Corvette. Thanks to the COVID-19 outbreak, production has been brought to a screaming halt. According to CarScoops, production resumed on May 26, 2020, but only at partial capacity. This means that even people who ordered a 2020 Corvette may not get it until 2021.

Why does the Chevy Corvette cost the most?

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was the first car to make the list, which means that it costs the most money compared to the others on the list. According to MotorTrend, the Corvette costs $122.43 per horsepower. So let’s break that down a little.

The 2020 Corvette starts at $60,000, making it one of the most affordable sports cars on the market. Since it gets 490 hp, you simply divide $60,000 by 490 to come up with MotorTrend’s price of $122.43.

So is this too much? Not really. MotorTrend reports, “Sure, it might fall beneath the rest of the muscle/sports cars on price-per-pony alone, but the C8’s incredible handling and dynamic performance for just under $60,000 should offset that $122.43 figure for most buyers.”

A man in Europe recently paid an astonishing $280,000 to be one of the first to own the 2020 Corvette in Europe. This means his Corvette cost around $571.43 per horsepower. Not only did he pay an enormous amount for his Corvette, but he also paid too much for the available horsepower. Still, he got what he wanted.

How much do you pay per horsepower for other cars?

The Corvette came in last on the list, but there are several other cars that are cheaper. Some are well known while others tend to fall under the radar.

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 made the list. It costs $117.18 per horsepower. This might be cheaper than the Corvette, and it gets more horsepower at 526 hp. It was also MotorTrend’s pick if they could choose any car on the list.

The 2020 Nissan 370Z costs around $93.42 per horsepower. It only costs $31,015, which is considerably cheaper than the Corvette, but many people don’t even realize Nissan still makes it.

No list of muscle/sports cars would be complete without mentioning the 2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. It costs $86.74 per horsepower. It costs a little more than the Corvette since it starts at $62,190, but it also gets an astonishing 717 hp.
