In a shocking turn of events, the 2020 Chevy Silverado has managed to steal the second place title from the Ram 1500. The Chevy Silverado was expected to be left behind in 3rd place as one of the most popular truck options, but the Ram 1500 now has more competition than expected.
The Chevy Silverado steals 2nd place
In a report provided by PickupTruckTalk you can see that the Chevy Silverado has pulled ahead of the Ram 1500 with more sales in 2020. The Ram 1500has been stuck in second place against the Ford F-150 that has been the most popular truck for decades.
People were starting to suggest that the Ram 1500 replaced the Chevy Silverado as the Ford F-150’s biggest rival, but it looks like that might not be the case. The Chevy Silverado has 409,967 sales for the year, while the Ram 1500 only has 402,410. The Ford F-Series sits on its throne, with 589,034 sales to date.
But in the third quarter of 2020, the Ram 1500 sold 156,157 units while the Chevy Silverado only sold 145,525 units. So, the Ram 1500 could catch up to the Silverado in Q4 to regain its 2nd place title. Also, the Ford F-Series sold 221,647 units, so it’s pretty far ahead in 1st place.
The 2020 Chevy Silverado vs. the Ram 1500
The 2020 Chevy Silverado begins at around $28,500, while the 2020 Ram 1500 starts at about $32,245. That’s a pretty big jump in price. The 2020 Ford F-150 begins around $28,940, so the Chevy Silverado is more competitive price-wise. However, you get more luxury comfort with the Ram 1500.
Under the hood of the Chevy Silverado, you’ll find the 4.3-liter base engine that provides 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. The most powerful engine option is the 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Also, the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-six engine pumps out 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
The base engine in the Ram 1500 is a 3.6-liter V6 option with 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 5.7-liter V8 engine for 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. Also, the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-six engine provides 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. So both trucks are more powerful than one another in different areas.
When properly equipped, the 2020 Chevy Silverado can tow up to 13,400 lb and carry a payload of up to 2,280 lb. The Ram 1500 has a maximum towing capacity of 11,090 lb and carry a payload of up to 2,300 lb.
