Did you know that the Chevy Traverse is one of Chevrolet’s most popular selling vehicles? It comes in second place, under the Chevy Silverado. But what’s so great about the 2020 Chevy Traverse, and is it worth buying?

Is the 2020 Chevy Traverse worth buying?

Our first reaction to the Chevy Traverse is due to its price. It starts around $29k, making it a pricier option for families. Plus, you have to spend more to add all the bells and whistles, including safety features that come standard on other options.

The Kia Sorento starts around $26k while the Honda Pilot starts around $31k. The Chevy Traverse can seat up to seven or eight passengers and has a pretty fair fuel economy. Seven passenger seating with captain chairs is only available on higher trim options.

It gets up to 18 mpg in the city and up to 27 mpg on the highway. You won’t find a fuel economy much better than that unless you consider a hybrid option instead.

A nice feature about the 2020 Chevy Traverse is that it comes with a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine that provides 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. With other options, you’ll have to upgrade to a V6!

When properly equipped with the towing package, the 2020 Traverse can tow up to 5,000 lb. Also, the Chevy Traverse is faster than expected, with the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds.

The 2020 Chevy Traverse has all-wheel-drive available. That will be great for driving through snow and other slippery conditions, but we wouldn’t recommend off-roading.

Also, the driving modes include an off-roading mode and towing mode. But here is the issue, to get a trim model with AWD, the price increases to about $36k. Usually, it only costs around $2k to add all-wheel-drive, not $5k.

Edmunds took the 2020 Chevy Traverse for a spin and noted that the active noise cancellation cabin does provide a quiet ride. However, the handling is a bit stiff. It feels like you are driving a more substantial ride instead of a sporty SUV.

2020 Chevy Traverse features

The 2020 Chevy Traverse is known for being large and spacious. Each row of seats has plenty of legroom and space for stretching out, and there are up to 98 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats folded flat.

A 7” infotainment center and Wifi hotspot come standard, but don’t be distracted by the hotspot. A majority of convenience features such as heated seats, power-folding rear seats, a power liftgate, lumbar support with the seats, and more require you to spend more.

You have to upgrade to a higher trim option for safety features such as rear-cross traffic alert, blind-spot warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and more. However, teen driver safety is included. You can use it to set alerts if your teen drives too fast or past curfew.

Sure, the Chevy Traverse is a spacious ride with a good engine, but the lack of standard features and amenities doesn’t make it worthwhile. There are other options for around that price that come with all the bells and whistles. The base model is an overpriced shell of an SUV.
