Dodge’s performance division, SRT, seems to be in a horsepower race all on its own, continually outdoing itself with more powerful versions of its popular Dodge Challenger Hellcat and Charger Hellcat models. For 2021, Dodge has provided three different power outputs for their supercharged 6.2-liter V8, with the most conservative option coming in as the cheapest way to get a brand-new car with over 700 hp. 

The base Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat already outdoes the competition

According to Dodge, a standard Challenger Hellcat costs $60,695 and comes with a 717-hp version of the supercharged 6.2-liter V8, a 10-hp increase from the original Hellcat. If the stock body isn’t aggressive enough, SRT also sells the Challenger Hellcat Widebody for $66,695.

To put this into context, let’s look at the dollar per horsepower equation compared to its closest competitors. Chevy makes the Camaro ZL1, which produces 650 hp from its Corvette Z06-based supercharged V8 and carries a base price of $63,995. 

Ford will gladly sell you a 760-hp muscle car with the Shelby GT500 and its supercharged V8, although its $72,900 MSRP comes in at $12,000 over that of the cheapest Hellcat. If we cross the pond over to Europe, expect to shell out at least $299,000 for a McLaren 720S with 710 hp or $335,000 for a Ferrari 812 Superfast with 788 hp.

It is essential to point out that while comparing a carbon-fiber bodied supercar to a 4,429-pound muscle car certainly involves more than just power output; the Hellcat remains the cheapest way to reach the 700 hp figure. 

What if I have a little more to spend?

For 2018, SRT produced a limited-edition Dodge Challenger called the Demon, and while it was only in production for one model year, the current Hellcat lineup is still reaping the benefits. For $72,295, SRT will sell you a Hellcat Redeye, which features the upgraded 2.7-liter supercharger from the aforementioned Demon, a step up from the standard 2.4-liter unit, bumping the power output to 797 hp. 

The biggest visual differentiator between a Hellcat and a Hellcat Redeye has to be the new hood, which features two enormous air intakes. Unlike its more affordable sibling, the Redeye is only available with an eight-speed automatic transmission, whereas the standard Hellcat offers a six-speed manual. For $78,695, SRT also sells a widebody version of the Redeye, backing up the extra power with a more aggressive stance. 

What if 797 hp just isn’t enough?

For those wanting the absolute craziest Hellcat money can buy, SRT has decided to take inspiration from the Demon yet again to produce an even more powerful version of the Redeye called the Super Stock. Under the hood of the Super Stock lives the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 as in the Redeye, except its tuned to produce 807 hp. Dodge claims the added power allows the Super Stock to reach 60 mph in just 3.25 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds. 

While specific pricing has yet to be released for this top model, Dodge has begun taking orders with deliveries expected to start later this fall. It is also important to note that while the Hellcat may be the cheapest way to get 700 hp, its more powerful sibling may just be not only the most affordable but one of the only ways to get 800 hp. To put a cherry on top of the lunacy, Dodge offers a 5-year/60,000-mile warranty for all Hellcat models.
