You’ve probably heard the phrase “there’s no replacement for displacement” and that holds true for the several sedans that you can buy this year with a strong and powerful V8 engine. What’s even better than having a V8 engine? Having all of the space and practicality of a sedan along with it. There are only a handful of sedans this year that have a V8 engine, but the Dodge Charger R/T is the most affordable option by far.

You get an option of V8 engines

The Dodge Charger comes with several options for engines ranging from V6 engines to V8s, all of which also vary in displacement. The lower models and base models are the most affordable options, but they are only available with the V6 engine. The first trim level that you can find a V8 in is the Charger R/T, and it has a surprisingly low price tag.

You can buy the R/T trim level Charger brand new, off the dealership lot for around $37,000 and there are two other trim level options above that which also offer a V8.

Under the hood of the Charger R/T, you will find a 5.7L V8 engine that offers as much as 370hp, a surprisingly large motor for a sedan. The Charger R/T is overall still a heavy car because it is a sedan, but it maintains a lot of practicality you lose when purchasing a sports car.

Although it is heavy, owners get the sports car experience with the Charger R/T. With excellent handling and acceleration, you might be inclined to forget you have four-doors. It’s a happy middle ground if you need back seats, like space or just all around prefers the sedan platform, without sacrificing a well-loved staple in the muscle car community, the V8.

The R/T isn’t the only affordable model

The R/T trim level of the Charger is the most affordable V8 you can get in a sedan, but the higher trim levels are still well-priced compared to some competitors. The next trim up is the notorious Scat Pack, and it will only set you back a few thousand dollars more.

There is some history to the Scat Pack title that gives the car that little extra bit of heritage, and you can identify the trim with the notorious Scat Pack badging and branding. This model has a slightly larger 6.4L V8 engine that outputs over 100hp more than the lower trim level, providing the driver with 485hp. You can buy a 2020 Charger Scat Pack for around $40,000, not too much more than the already well-priced R/T trim.

Then, of course, there is the significantly more expensive Dodge Charger Hellcat which is also a sedan model with a V8 engine, however, it almost doubles the price of the R/T model making it significantly less affordable.
