Unless you’re able to own different cars to suit all your different needs and interests, you’ll likely want a car that checks several boxes at once. If you’re interested in a great sports car but also need a practical car for everyday driving, the 2020 Ford Mustang may be the perfect car that won’t make you feel like you’ve settled.

The 2020 Ford Mustang is a great sports car

U.S. News & World Report points to the 2020 Ford Mustang’s “athletic ride, precise handling, and comfortable interior” as the reasons it was picked as the best sports car. There are multiple engine choices, and all provide plenty of power. The base trim has a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 310 hp. Two 5.0-liter V8 engines produce either 460 or 480 hp, and a 5.2-liter V8 engine produces 526 hp. For the most powerful Mustang experience, the Mustang Shelby GT500 has a supercharged V8 engine that produces a whopping 760 hp.

The car has a standard six-speed manual transmission, but a 10-speed automatic transmission is available. The Shelby GT500 has an available seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. U.S. News & World Report calls the Mustang a great car to drive, with its “dialed-in cornering abilities and a comfortable ride.”

The 2020 Ford is also practical

Along with all that power, the 2020 Ford Mustang also has features that the average person will find useful. Available as a fastback or a convertible, the two-door Mustang still has room for four people. Don’t expect a roomy rear seat though, or easy entry, since there are only two doors. The Shelby models, which are the most powerful, don’t have back seats.

The Mustang has plenty of trunk space, offering more than most of its competitors. The fastback style has 13.5 cubic feet of cargo room, and the seats can be folded down for more space. The convertible has 11.4 cubic feet of cargo room.

In general, the Mustang’s interior is of high quality. It has a modern design but includes some retro features, like metal flip switches. Leather upholstery is an available option, plus heated, and ventilated front seats can be added. Six-way power-adjustable seats are available too.

Technology and safety in the 2020 Ford Mustang

Technology and safety are likely features that sports car enthusiasts and everyday drivers are looking for in this segment. The car offers plenty of tech features, although many are not standard. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system, satellite radio, and a nine-speaker stereo are available features.

The upgraded infotainment touchscreen is eight inches, while the base model’s screen is described just as “small.” FordPass Connect is a new standard feature for the 2020 model year. It is an app that lets smartphones lock or unlock the car, start the engine, and check the car’s fuel or mileage.

The only standard driver-assist feature is the Mustang’s rearview camera. However, plenty of other features are available, including adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

The 2020 Mustang received positive ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The NHTSA gave the Mustang five out of five stars for overall safety and the frontal crash, side crash, and rollover tests. The IIHS also rated the Mustang Good in four of its tests, the top rating, and Acceptable in the driver-side small overlap front test, the second-highest rating.

U.S. News & World Report gave the 2020 Ford Mustang an excellent overall rating of 8.8 out of 10, naming it #1 in sports cars. It has a starting price of $26,670 for the base trim. The 2020 Ford Mustang can deliver performance on the road and practicality running errands around town, making it an excellent car for buyers who never want to settle.
