Hybrids have been around for a long time in many forms. We’ve known for quite some time that hybrid cars are fuel-efficient; however, they haven’t always been the safest or the most reliable. But, as time goes on, hybrids like the Honda Insight continue to improve in many areas.

Honda has taken its hybrid to another level with the ability to produce a wonderful car that’s both safe and reliable to drive. The Insight earned high marks when it comes to safe driving, which is revolutionizing hybrid technology as well as bringing them back in a more positive light. U.S. News summarized the Insight and some of its safety features.

The 2020 Honda Insight is a four-door sedan with hybrid technology. It has excellent fuel economy, rated for 45-49 mpg on the highway, which overshadows some of its competitors. It’s also known for its ample cargo space, which you don’t often see in hybrid sedans. Its 15.1 cubic feet of space beats out other vehicles like the Toyota Corolla Hybrid.

The Honda Insight also comes with some driver-assist technology that makes driving much easier and safer for traveling. While there are many features, Honda’s Lane Watch feature alone is worth a look since it allows you to see more when you change lanes or make turns.

Blind-spot and cross-traffic monitoring are also significant elements of Honda’s driving technology that will enable you to detect any obstacles around you before you collide with it.

This hybrid sedan comes standard with a four-cylinder engine that puts out 151 hp when combined with its electric motor. It also comes with a CVT automatic transmission to help give you enough power to get wherever you need to go while helping you save money at the pump.

The ride is smooth, and passengers will find it comfortable to ride in no matter if you’re going short distances or lengthy ones. But the area that makes the Honda Insight stand out above the rest lies with its safety features and crash test scores.

Above-average safety scores

The IIHS gave the Honda Insight a Top Safety Pick+ designation, which is the highest honor the organization gives. They gave scores in the “Good” rating for small and moderate overlap front tests for both the passenger and driver’s side. The only area it didn’t get their highest rating of Good was with one of their side crash evaluations.

They test the measure of injury with different areas of the body in different locations of the vehicle. The rear passenger scored well in all areas except the pelvic leg. It still got an “Acceptable” rating, which is the next best thing to “Good.”

The NHTSA tests three specific areas when they evaluate how well a vehicle stands up to safety. The 2020 Honda Insight received some of the highest marks of any vehicle out there. For the front and side crash tests, it got five stars across the board. When it came to the rollover evaluation, it not only got a five-star rating, but they also measured rollover risk to be 9.30 percent, which is pretty good for a sedan.

The Insight has the Honda Sensing suite of safety features, which MotorTrend lays out pretty clearly. Some of the features include lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and forward-collision warning. Along with that, the suite also offers a collision mitigation braking system as well as the road departure mitigation system. Both will adjust steering and braking to help facilitate a safe response should an accident be forthcoming.

Honda’s safety package doesn’t stop there though. You can find a few more features that help make the sedan a safe vehicle to drive. Those include adaptive cruise control that keeps you a safe distance behind other vehicles and traffic sign recognition, which will help alert the driver of things like upcoming speed limit signs.

The 2020 Honda Insight is a model to look out for, especially when it comes to safety. Having a fuel-efficient vehicle that performs well and passes the IIHS and NHTSA precise safety tests – what more could you ask for?
