The short answer? Not exactly. Of course, there’s more to it than that. Though the 2020 Ridgeline is available with Honda’s iVTM-4 all-wheel-drive system and intelligent traction management, the construction of the truck makes it a tough pick for those looking to hit the trails on the regular.

Unlike other trucks on U.S. News & World Report’s list, the 2020 Ridgeline offers a maximum of 7.87-inches of ground clearance. Compare that to a truck like the 2020 Nissan Titan PRO-4X, which offers 9.8-inches of ground clearance, and it’s clear the 2020 Ridgeline isn’t made to take on rocky and uneven terrain. 

Another off-roading feature that the 2020 Ridgeline lacks? This year’s model doesn’t come standard with front or rear skid plates, which protect a truck’s components from harsh and uneven terrain. Though you can buy aftermarket skid plates, opting for a truck like the 2020 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro means skid plates are part of the deal.

The 2020 Ridgeline wasn’t designed for extreme off-roading conditions. That’s not to say it can’t ever go off-roading. It can be had with a few trail-ready features for an afternoon of hitting the trails, but it will never be a true off-road vehicle when compared to something like the 2020 Jeep Gladiator.

Who was the 2020 Honda Ridgeline made for?

If the 2020 Ridgeline isn’t made for off-road enthusiasts, then who is it made for? Those who want a truck, but without all the brawn and capabilities of a true off-roader. 

With seating for five, and available with leather-trimmed seats, the 2020 Ridgeline is a truck that comes stocked with people-pleasing amenities. Add in an available navigation system that seamlessly integrates with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and this year’s model does become an enticing choice among its segment. 

The 2020 Ridgeline does have more to offer than a slew of amenities, though. Able to tow up to 5,000-pounds, this year’s Ridgeline also features a dual-action tailgate, a lockable in-bed trunk, a truck-bed power outlet, and an available kayak attachment.

So, while you may not be able to do some serious off-roading with this truck, you can count on it to tow a modest amount, have enough space for your gear, and be ready for your next weekend adventure.
