When Jeep debuted its new 2021 Wrangler High Altitude and Gladiator High Altitude at Chicago’s Auto Show this year, fans of the blacked-out vibe took notice. Jeep saw an opportunity to fulfill a wish and made it happen. They added the stylish Altitude trim to the 2020 Jeep Gladiator lineup based on the Sport S trim.

Why is this a big deal? What does the new package for Jeep’s truck include and how much is it? We’ve got the details.

Who is the Jeep Gladiator Altitude for?

The folks at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles paid attention to the popularity of the blacked-out packages with its other products. They thought fans would enjoy the popular Jeep Gladiator with the same treatment. It’s different from the Jeep Gladiator High Altitude special edition models. The High Altitude is a different animal with its urban luxury look.

This is a lower more affordable Altitude.

In a statement from the company, head of the Jeep brand for FCA Jim Morrison explains that the new Jeep Gladiator Altitude is specifically for those who want the exclusive dark-look package straight from the manufacturer. He said that Jeep Altitude models continue to grow in popularity with customers and adding the trim to the Gladiator completes the lineup.

What does it include?

The 2020 Gladiator Jeep Sport S has all the features of the base Gladiator but adds power locks and windows. The Sport S is flexible, allowing you to add features you can’t get with the standard model via different packages for an additional cost.

It offers the 7-Inch Radio Group ($995) that gives you a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and automatic climate control configured for a dual-zone. The Cold Weather Group ($695) gives you a heated steering wheel and heated front seats. The Active Safety Group ($795) lets you add blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic alert. For $795 more, you can get adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and auto emergency braking.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator Altitude trim is all about urban style according to PickupTrucks. The fender flares and grille is body-colored with darker gray accents on the latter. The Jeep and Trail-Rated badges are black. There are 18-inch Granite Crystal wheels with 255/70R18 Bridgestone Dueler All-Terrain tires.

You can get the Gladiator Altitude in Black, Hydro Blue, Granite Crystal, Gobi (beige), Sting Gray, Gator (green), Firecracker Red, Billet Silver, and White. According to the folks at Autoblog, the color choices on Jeep Wrangler Altitude models in the past have been limited where body-colored fenders are included. The same could be true for the Jeep Gladiator Altitude models.

Topping it off is the black Freedom Top three-piece hardtop. There’s a soft-top option with the dual-top option.

On the inside, there are black cloth seats as standard with black stitching on the leather-wrapped steering wheel carried over from the Sport S trim. You also get the Wizard Black instrument panel.

Under the hood, the Altitude offers one powertrain according to Motor1. It features a 3.6-liter V6 engine that gets 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

How much is the Jeep Gladiator Altitude?

The new 2020 Jeep Gladiator Altitude will start at $41,835 (prices include destination fee). That’s an increase of $3,595 above the $38,240 starting price of the Jeep Gladiator Sport S. When you consider the Freedom Top option costs $1,295 by itself, the remaining $2,300 for other extras is a pretty good deal. For that, you’re getting body-colored fenders, the grille, interior touches, bigger 18-inch dark wheels, and better tires.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is already a capable powerhouse of a truck. The new Altitude package allows enthusiasts to have the popular blacked-out look straight from the factory at a reasonable price. The end result is a truck that can take you anywhere you want to go and turn heads doing it.
