The Kia Sorento is has been a strong competitor within the midsized SUV class for a while now. The growing popularity of this classification has made any good midsized SUV an automatic top contender for a great car in general. Kia specifically has been making waves across the board as well. So, why is now a good time to buy a Kia Sorento? 

What kind of deals are we talking about?

According to a study by Consumer Reports, the Kia Sorento is one of the most discounted midsized SUV by dealers and the used market. For this specific piece, we compare how big of a percentage under MSRP the Kia Sorento is compared to other similar makes. 

Consumer Reports found that the 2020 Kia Sorento are found most commonly between 16-24 percent lower than the MSRP. There are examples of even larger percentages, over 20 percent off MSRP, but the majority fall in that first group. 

Why the Kia Sorento is worth pursuing

For a reasonably small package, the Kia Sorento still features three rows of seating and a well-stocked list of features. In Consumer Reports’ road test, the 2020 Kia Sorento was modestly sized and comfortable. Although they didn’t find the 2020 Kia Sorento quite as enjoyable as the Mazda CX-9, they said the Kia had responsive steering and capable suspension for everyday driving. 

The Kia Sorento is quiet and has a decently-equipped interior. Its smaller size makes it more maneuverable than many of its larger competitors but sacrifices some storage capacity. According to Consumer Reports, the third row’s size is only appropriate for children. The middle row was found to be plenty comfortable for adults, though. 

2020 Kia Sorento specs

The Kia Sorento, as tested, had a 3.3-liter V6 with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The AWD versions have an electronic differential that splits power 50-50 between the front and rear wheels. 

The standard Sorento comes with a 2.6-liter four-cylinder and can tow up to 2,000 pounds. The better-equipped FWD versions with the V6 can handle 3,500 pounds, while the AWD can lug a surprising 5,000 pounds. 

Consumer Reports goes on to describe a modest interior, but still comfortable. Braking is handled well, giving the driver confidence in the Sorento’s standing on the road, while body roll is equally adequate. 

The 2020 Kia Sorento has BlueTooth, satellite navigation, and other modern features that do seem to be slightly outdated compared to some of Kia’s competitors. As far as safety and driver’s assistance is concerned, the Kia Sorento is pretty well equipped. According to Consumer Reports, the 2020 Kia Sorento has forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control as standard, starting on the EX V6 and higher trim levels.

The 2020 Kia Sorento won’t blow your socks off, but it is a reliable and practical midsized SUV. The Sorento is modestly priced and can currently be found 20 percent under MRSP, in some cases, making it a great time to snag one.
