The 2020 Polestar 2 is being touted as the first electric car to have an Android Automotive operating system that is exclusively powered by Google. As the battle for the best electric car rages on, major auto manufacturers are finding ways to make their vehicles unique and more appealing to consumers. The race is on to develop a hybrid or all-electric version of the most popular brands.

Tesla, which once owned the EV market, now has to contend with a lot of unwelcome competition. Polestar is one of the companies giving Elon Musk a run for his money.

As industry experts take notice, the growing EV company just beat out Tesla for a prestigious award. Time will tell if this means the Polestar 2 will take the lead in the race for electric car superiority?

The Polestar 2 named the best electric vehicle of 2020

The Polestar 2 is the second model to debut from Volvo’s standalone performance brand. The vehicle is a tribute to the future of automobiles that relies on the reputable strength of this long-established automaker.

Newly released, the Polestar 2 is turning heads with the number of awards it has accumulated thus far. Popular Mechanics named it the Best Electric Vehicle of 2020. It won the 2020 Motoring Innovation of the Year award for its advanced infotainment system. The popular EV was also named the German Car of the Year in the luxury division and the Most Beautiful Electric Car of 2020 by Autozeitung.

It received the Best of the Best award for its consistency in design quality and creative performance, along with the Robb Report award for sustainable design. Even the production facility that features a brand experience center in Chengdu, China, received an award for the number one landmark in the city.

Popular Mechanics selected the Polestar 2 because of its pleasant performance capabilities. The interior impressed with a dashboard that displays vital information such as speed, range, and navigation with simplistic precision. A center multi-screen breaks into quadrants for Google Maps and entertainment features, and the function controls appear in the upper and lower docks.

Comparing the vehicles side-by-side, Popular Mechanics said the “Polestar will probably never have fart mode or arcade games. But it does have the responsiveness, speed, range, and technology that makes the Model 3 so desirable.”

Slightly slower than the Tesla Model 3

The 2020 Polestar 2 can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.45 seconds, which is a little slower than the Tesla Model 3 that can get it done in 3.2 seconds.

Popular Mechanics wasn’t fazed by the minimal difference saying that “anything under 5 seconds means thrilling highway merges.” They noted that the Polestar 2 exhibited good steering capabilities along with the right amount of suspension.

They really enjoyed the car overall and felt it cleared the 2020 baselines for both speed and range in the electric car segment. They found it to be a “pleasure to drive in every practical scenario.”

Benefits of purchasing the Polestar 2

The starting price for the 2020 Polestar 2 is $59,900, which does not include a $7,500 EV rebate. The Tesla Model 3 has a starting price of $54,990. With a small difference in price, it comes down to features and benefits.

The Polestar 2 has a better-built interior and offers a more comfortable ride. TechCrunch says “the fit and finish of the 2 are on par with anything from BMW, Mercedes, or Volvo.”

Polestar is encouraging a digital shopping experience. The forward-looking company offers webinars to discuss topics such as safety features and is working hard to produce zero-emission vehicles.

Polestar is using sustainable materials to combine minimalist function with a clean design. A vegan lover’s dream, they are recycling discarded plastic bottles to create a 3D knit for their seating. This environmentally friendly company is building quality cars to compete in the EV segment that was once dominated by only a handful of auto manufacturers.
